NijiEN only really-tried to be a Hololike for its first half year, then Ethyria was kind of establishing "yes they can and will hire people totally unlike ones suitable for holo tier" and then luxiem came about only a couple months later. Given how popular Luxiem was at first they took that as a sign that their strat will work and they can just copypaste what they do for JP, but it seems everyone including their own beancounters mistook kpop stan and Chinese fujo money for Western support and these are notoriously fickle. Yeah, NijiEN's biggest issue is 0 outreach. You could potentially stumble on Holotori Dance thinking it is some meme video, or be told this vtuber Marine has insane animation for a song. Which also plays into the strength of having branches be close, finding one can lead to the other. Right now NijiEN is only known for drama cause that's the only big things they do. Big collabs don't draw in new eyes, the EN sphere is too big for cultural events/passtimes, only 3 have 3D for events and they're just not showing off a range of talents.

I don't think just sending in more waves is entirely a bad strategy. Eventually some company will find a new vein of fans. Problem is doing the same sort of waves repeatedly. HoloEN will also face this issue soon. What they need is people dedicated to ASMR, content creators, musicians, etc and give them backing. Random example from the JP side, I found out one is doing VA in Disgaea 7. That'll be the first time someone finds out about them yet EN have nothing like it. Though they failed to make a esports wave so maybe they just lack the pull.

As a long-time viewer of both, I completely agree there. I think one of Holo's strengths is the ''common projects'' they do together, which creates better fandom overlap. Meanwhile the Niji talent are strong at creating in their own circles (i tend to watch specific chuubas for their personality+chat interaction game), but have a really poisonous atmosphere when they get paired wrong. There isnt the same cohesive professionalism as with the Holo talents imo, it shows in how the chats banter differently between the companies too

Its an interesting way to put it cause NijiJP managed it in their own way. The early talent really defined the general vibe and then you have offshoots within. This all effects how the company approach projects. Their talent bias and you could argue how talent driven things are but it exists in there. NijiEN never really managed it, they were not-holos, then the Luxiem Show, and now just sort of exist. Mixed with management that doesn't seem to care I'd struggle to say what they are. HoloEN had it easy, they do Holo stuff and are now well integrated into it. Niji branches just never seem allowed to get a foot in the door.
