I grew up learning Chinese. The hanzi actually have a semi- intuitive way to read them. They’re all made of strokes, and are separated into halves, where the left half means something. For example, you have 氵. Every word with it has something to do with water or liquid. If you have 扌, it has to do with hands or actions. But as far as I know, kanji just took it directly without the meaning being associated or copied. So for kanji it’s pretty much just memorization.
