I used to watch indie vtubers as much as big corpo vtubers back then, although I watch more the Hololive girls more nowadays. But I think that I enjoyed interacting with the indie chuuba and them reading my comments in the chat, and overall being responsive and interactive with their fans/community is one of the strengths of Indie Vtubers, in my opinion.

I watch mostly indies over large corpo because I can meaningfully interact with the stream. I watch fuwamoco, but it doesn't feel as important to catch them live. The chat is just a distracting flood, so I prefer to hide it. Without using chat, there's little difference in the experience between live and archive.

she asks me about my day almost everyday and replies to me when I tell her about it
she is caring for her genmates and supports them
she loves anime, vtubers, idols, and singing
she talks about how much it means to her when she receives maros
she works very hard to make her fans happy won't talk about things that would make them sad or jealous

TLDR of this thread: it’s a crapshoot at debut. No one is going to watch your debut, and that’s ok. Build a reputation for being really good at talking to chat and you’ll have better luck growing.
I guess the corollary is that if you’re not really good at interacting with chat and also bad at telling groomers to fuck off gently, then you’re screwed. Only you know the answer to that question though.

If they play something interesting, I'll check them out. But then you see there's just 3 or 4 other viewers in the current stream, and the sub count is like 200 or less, and that they've been doing this for a few years and it becomes sad. I'd want everyone who puts in the time and effort to do this to have some level of success, it doesn't mean they all get 1 million subs, but at least something that makes them happy. There's too much negativity in the world already.

I follow an indie because I can see her trying her best and investing a lot of her time, money and energy into cultivating a community. She enjoys streaming and enjoys hanging out with her community. I respect when someone is putting in the work, so that would be my advice. Work hard and even if you're not that entertaining, people will at least respect the fact that you're putting in the work and might follow you regardless.

if you make it to 2 view or even 3 view, learn from the people that failed before you. don't let your viewcount get to your head and let you think you can say anything, you can't and it'll kill your career overnight, apologizing will not work. if you're doing even a soft GFE thing, avoid men like the plague, honestly there's a subset that'll drop you forever if you even speak about past relationships. and never forget that your fans are the reason you're there, don't do something stupid like insult them or try to speak down to them.

I think language learning streams are well received when you mix in a good amount of chat interaction. Especially if you were to for example, have a lot of EN viewers and did EN leaning streams. Viewers like to see chubas learning their language because it shows a drive to communicate with their community and that they’re trying their best.

Quick tip: If you're just staarting then networking is something you definitely want to consider, not only because of the number factor, but becasue surrounding yourself with people experienced in the craft can give you better insight and resources than randoms on the internet, like for example artist reccomendations for when you need assets, or tips for streaming an anon that never streamed won't know.

And yes, that is a pretty cold and uncaring way to look at this. As of now, you should treat this as a hobby with the possibility to do some extra money if you have luck.
Stream for a bit, try to find your Stream Rhythym, don't be afraid to tell friends to visit your stream, or be afraid to talk about yourself on social media, and stand your ground if you see someone being rude to you, do not tolerate someone's rudeness because you're scared of losing a viewer or because they donated money, the mute and ban button are your friends.

also this is a personnal gripe that not everyone shares, but do not post your real body/self. Pics of stuff you own are fine, and you don't need to play a strict kayfabe, but i'm personally very adverse to anyone that posts their real body/face/etc. I just find it really distasteful, and not in the spirit of vtubing.

Oh yeah, something you need to understand is that people will sexualize you.
Wether or not you lean on the sexy side, it will happen, at least a bit. If you get big enough, or happen to attract an artist fan or rich fan willing to commision it, you might even get lewd fanart, so it's better that you make peace with that idea and don't get too shocked that some of your viewers might want to fuck you.

Personally, I just watch for their ability to entertain. Small tubers are usually pretty active with their audience, because they can afford to be. And that keeps me engaged.

Otherwise, it's usually their design, the game they're playing, or the gimmick that keeps me there. Or maybe they're just funny as hell.
