So going by the discussion from the last thread, it seems like we're preferring to have a prompt based contest (with the prompt being something open like "it's up to you to save Christmas").
But what about any other rule amendments? Do we go for an open awards based system or go for more categories? Impose a word count range/limit or stick to a word count minimum but with no maximum?

Bit the bullet and made and outline spreadsheet for my scenes. I have to admit, it's pretty satisfying completeing a scene and being able to turn the cell green. And you can visually see how much progress you're making day-to-day.

I think before we do more limitations, we have to sort out the organization.
For starters, there should be different awards based on different genres. As someone pointed out, the hottest piece of smut is NSFW, but so could be a funny shitpost.
I propose sorting them out by category rather just pure SFW or NSFW contents. It's a lot less dark and white.

There should be multiple awards, and stories should be eligible for multiple awards. That allows for multiple awards without strict categories spreading the fics too thin.
Since working with a contest-imposed prompt limits creativity and thus motivation, and many people got too ambitious last time, a maximum word count makes sense. It also keeps the entries more comparable.

If you want my two cents I think we should go with multiple awards based on genres like “best comedy” or “best smut” rather than categories that writers must adhere their story to. If it was a themed contest a single award for “best story” would be better but if we’re going with a prompt then multiple awards is better.
As for word limit, 10k max and 500 min is find imo. Maybe we can push the max a little further but we don’t have. The time limit should be increased though, maybe to a month and a half.

Working on the next chapter of Balsa. Going to be a slow chapter that's going to give a window into everyone's minds before the next big plot point.

I took the feedback from last chapter and it's going to make this all the sweeter. I not only explored a bit more of implications of Civia's mind being occupied by others, but it's also given me a perfect opportunity to slow down and explore Mel's personality when not speaking to Ciyana or her cohorts as well as exploring Civia in far more detail, something I have neglected to do. It's making for an excellent bit of back and forth I think.

I know that anyone who's reading can probably predict the initiation is coming, but I am struggling a bit on what gift would best suit our MC. It needs to be a good counter while also not just being godmode.

Honestly, you should post it for feedback. You might be surprised what things people like (and don't like) about it, but with an emphasis on the former. It's true that once you get a feel for things you're less reliant on posting what I guess we can call 'proto-drafts' but your wording ('pretty sure that's normal') suggests you might be new to writing? If you're not in apologize and just ignore me. But yeah, if you do happen to be, then it's better to get more upfront feedback. Mostly because newer writers are a bit less good at sussing out good and bad, and often revise good things out of their draft.

hey anon. i read about... a quarter to a third of the story and i want to say i think you're a pretty damn good writer. i have some bias here because i have a strong preference for a faster rhythm, but i think your prose is breezy and punchy in a way that makes it eminently readable. unironically this is the kind of prose that sells really well, like in young adult novels, though the whole finding a publisher game is kinda fucked up right now. anyway, just know that there are web novels that make loads and loads of cash that are basically very very inferior versions of this prose.

i guess just to give a short rundown of why i think so, based off what i read

1. you have a good sense of scene length. seems trivial, but it's not. the length of the aquarium and rushing home, and then the progression of the maid cafe stuff to the delinquents coming in is very very tight.

2. an intrinsic sense of escalation. again, good instincts in how you build up the cafe scene, punctuated moment of chloe shriek when she first gets fondled, and the basic rhythm of it being driven by the protagonist's increasingly shameful and excited monologue.
3. good sense of setup payoff, which may be the most important thing. not sure if this was intentional, but when you first hear his mind in italics going "mooore!" i thought he was just trying to peek at more of chloe's cleavage. it's kind of an interesting 'oh shit' moment when you realize what he's hearing in his head. like, for a second you think it might be him thinking about his own sex with her. but then it's not. and uh, fwiw, i did not really read the premise of the story before with the av stuff, so that reaction will be specific to people who didn't know that.

in general though, the contrast of the lovey dovey aquarium date with the salacious and painful job, the dread building up as payoff for the gut punch... it's well done. maybe i'm abusing this word, but i think it just shows really good instincts.

That's valid; I wrote it with Iofi as the pet because of the prompt that requested it, I never really watched her. But the prompter was happy with it, so it worked out in that sense.
