Cover's #1 priority right now seems to be attracting new people. They have the male boomer otaku on lock but they are reaching the limit of that demographic. The next big targets they can aim at are zoomers, women and normie-ish males.

One of the problems with zoomers, among many, is that their attention span is extremely low so the main way to attract them is via clips and shorts, both of which produce little to no income for Cover. Another problem is that zoomers do not have much money to spend, so even if you were to hook them on the profitable stuff, they would still not spend much. This doesn't mean zoomers will be ignored, Cover did take some initiatives with youtube shorts and tiktok to attract them, but they're not the main focus so they will not invest too much on them.

Next is women, and Cover has spent FAR more time and resources here because they are potentially just as profitable as male boomer otakus, if not more. The most obvious way to attract them is holostars, but no matter how hard Cover has tried with them, they have failed to grab a sizeable fanbase in over 4 years of activity. Another way to grab women is fujo pandering, but that sort of fanbase comes with a lot of downsides and it would require Cover to release a new gen specifically tailored for that, and that would clash with the current status quo a lot. Luxiem's recent downfall due to their toxic fanbase might have tampered with this option even more in the eyes of management.

Another problem with women is that they don't really like gaming content, which is still a staple in hololive. What they do like is music, and this is why Cover is pushing music related projects a lot more lately. As an added bonus, music can also attract the normie-ish male fanbase, so you can target both at the same time. But there's another problem here, mainly the fact that hololive (and holostars) has always tageted a different kind of fan before, and you can see this clearly in their designs. Every holo is a fantasy character with some basic lore attached to it (a LOT of lore for some of them actually). This is good when your target is otakus or similar demographics, but it's not good for others that either don't care for this type of stuff or they find it downright cringe and unpleasant.

And this last point is why Cover decided to make a new branch. Look at their designs, they're very different from the usual hololive designs and there's nothing "fantasy" about them, they're just 5 girls that formed a KPOP-like band and will therefore focus on music.

The reason many aren't really hyped about this (myself included) or just don't understand why, it's simple: you're not the target audience.
