But if my audio is still too low, I don’t know how much more I can do about that except maybe scream into my mic. I have the physical gain nearly maxed, the OBS gain maxed, and an extra OBS gain filter on top of that. Even upped the audio of the clip to 125% in post. I would appreciate some advice there, because I am talking at a normal speaking volume. 2-6 inches from face, depending. Dynamic mic, if that helps.

Once you actually start working productively you realize that things don't actually need that much time. An artist can finish a fully colored piece in a day but considering that most commissions take months to complete that will skew people's perception. I've done a VN style voice over / 3d animated 20 minute video before and even with manually putting the text it took me an evening for the bulk of the work. I've been editing videos since 2010 so I'm used to the workflow. At my old job i completed a full design and layout (full HTML / CSS +js) for a website in a day. Proficiency cuts down on time a lot, if you tell me that good things need time then it tells me that you aren't working efficiently.

Well, YouTube says that the best length for an ASMR video is 20-30 minutes as according to my analytics anyway. I can just tell your ASMR videos (if you even actually make videos) are just you speaking into a microphone reading a script you put together in 5 minutes. Alright, so I mocked up something real quick and it taught me a couple important lessons.

- I have no flirty / seducing power. I need to work on that.
- Astarion's VA is brilliant and expressive, I am not. This needs a lot of practise I'm not putting in right now.
- I don't care much for vampires, i only suck dicks.

As for the outcome, I re-wrote the script to be a little more natural. Astarion is naturally flirty / direct, you need the voice and confidence to make the script believable. I opted for something a little bit more defensive to suit my passive / emotionless tone, but I did try to add a little bit of desperation in it. This would require a lot of re-recordings to get fully into the character. The personality is confident and willing, but not inhumane and would be willing to let the victim go. Astarion fits into that because he only feasts on beasts and enemies, despite the fact they made him be a dick in most cases. Using him as a blueprint for a vampire is pretty good, but it's difficult to make it believable.

Technical stuff:
I thought about adding slight music but it's distracting, night sounds only. For a longer script I'd probably add a follow up scene indoors, but for the first meeting a tense night encounter is fine. Post-Processing my voice has always been a blindspot for me, I feel like I put too much bass on it, but people usually listen to these on shitty IEMs or just their phone, I want to give it a little more oomph, but I think i should try to normalize it a bit more. Unsure, I'd need bigger sample size.

Conclusion:
Considering this is more or less my first script reading attempt I learned a lot already and as I do this more often I'll probably get used to the process more and find the groove for my personality. Right now I'd rate this a 5% out of a possible 100% of quality I want to be at. Nothing I'd release.

Just woke up. I can see that you had a lot of fun with it. The improved script, the sound effects. Yours was a more serious attempt at the whole thing. It was a fun listen. Nice to see other artistic intents. But I listened with headphones and the bass was noticeably drumming on my ears. Not bad, but noticeable.
Looks like a lot of anons seemed to discuss how little effort went into my video. Yeah, it was a 1 minute joke that took at most a couple of hours (a couple before I shitposted here). What’s the gain of your microphone, by itself? What’s the gain of the preamp/amp you’re using in conjunction with the mic? Do you know what the pickup pattern of your mic is/are you placing your voice in that area? Additionally 6 inches may be too far depending on your hardware setup and how quiet you are when talking. 75% gain on the volume knob means almost nothing if you can’t find the gain in the manual or something. Dynamic mics tend to be -50 to -70dB of gain, and dB are logarithmic so about -10dB would be halving your sound. Any amplification you use, whether hardware or software, needs to approximately make up for the loss of your microphone, whatever that may be. After that any additional filters can be used to keep the sound at a relatively even volume, clean it up, et cetera.

Some of the effects of being too close to the mic (this mostly shows up as harder consonant sounds, and too much bass) can be mitigated with a pop filter/equalizing out some bass/de-esser, if you don’t have those already. Of course there is a point at which filters can’t save you either, but depends again on your voice and setup.
