You've got it pretty down pat anon! ASMR is a nice bonus but if you're not into it yourself, you don't have to do it at all. ESPECIALLY if it's RP. You can do story scenarios without the ASMR mic. Over the course of watching multiple different male vtubers, unintentional BFE seems to be the best BFE. Doing flirty pickup lines are fun sometimes but it hits harder when something comes from the heart. For example, I remember a time when someone playfully said "you're not watching other male vtubers, are you?" and you could tell they were just kidding and laughed it off afterwards. And then there was that time in a drunk ASMR stream where someone SC'd Vox saying they've watched another man's ASMR and he got genuinely upset. So one possessive BFE is just acting, the other is real. It's not easy to pull off, and I've come to realize that the latter requires a bit of mental illness and I also notice that it's the same for GFE so I'm not going to go around suggesting that men don't take their meds just to get to that level of menhera. You can still do BFE that comes from the heart without being menhera, there are different tropes after all and your knowledge of those tropes will help you in the long run. Remember though, you don't always have to do intentional BFE at all. Something I would add is have some goals. Women love ambitious men and like to be inspired and reach their goals alongside with you. Have some short term goals, or long term goals, or both. Tell us a change you've always wanted to see in the world, and work towards it. Personally I'm working on reaching my goals again because of my oshi, and I love seeing a man who wants to achieve his dreams no matter how silly. In fact if they are silly or ridiculous but they have the drive to do it anyway, that's even better. One reason why Vox in particular has so many yumes isn't just because of the kisses and fanservice like so many people think. He inspires a lot of people. Your words have a lot of impact and saying you're proud of someone else for making progress goes a long way. That's also a reason why I think idols are so popular. Inpiration helps people keep going in life.

Genuine question, why do you guys keep acting like Vox is some pinnacle of male vtubing? Sure, he along with Luxiem took off really well, but nowadays none of them are even close to their initial popularity. There are male vtubers with more long-lasting success that would make better examples (and they are nothing like Vox), yet I rarely see them mentioned on here.

There is more than one way to appeal to a female audience, and Vox certainly shouldn't be treated as the best example.

If there's one thing I like about nijisanji over other companies or groups that do group debuts, it's that they're shorter. Why do people need an entire hour for their debut? It's nothing that can't be done in 30 minutes or less. You can take a look at any bigger JP names, essentially none of them are anything like Vox, and yet they still have yume/gachi fans (that they are fine with) because not everyone likes BFE pandering up to the max being the chuuba's only relevant quality. While this is true, you can sure as hell blame Vox for male vtubers on the EN side being judged more harshly. Someone like Shu is similar to what I'm talking about (though he basically does no fanservice at all) and he is decently popular, so it's not like you *have* to do explicit BFE. But expectations for male vtubers have been set and so nobody wants to try any other way of gaining an audience.
It's not like your two choices are hardcore brotuber OR hardcode BFE, there's a middle ground.

Mysta was more popular than Vox and while he did fanservice, it was not his main appeal even during his debut months. He got popular because he's funny and used his creative streams and the algorithm to his advantage. You want to use Bettel as an example? He's the same; he's funny and has creative streams and that's why he's the most popular in Vanguard. Hell even for Vox, he's not just popular because of his deep voice and ASMR. He's funny too, does really good RP streams, and inspires others. Unironically that's a you problem. You shouldn't be doing vtubing solely for money because it takes a long time to grow a following and even longer to gain monetary support. You should always do it for fun and for the love of the hobby first. That's why I always tell indies/aspies to make sure it's something you love doing first and not to expect yumes to just fall at your feet right away if you decide to take up doing BFE. Never quit your day job to bank everything on vtubing because it's always a risk.

And if you want to talk about popularity, Magni and Vesper were very popular in Holostars but Magni barely did any fanservice that appeals to women and Vesper did absolutely none so far as I remember. Welcome back, hope you had a good day touching grass! They both have your typical complicated indie vtuber lore but it was well put together. Nick is definitely a huge talker. I got a little disinterested because the debut was so long but his voice is still lovely to listen to. He checked off one of my boxes by having a more beast-like form that can come out when he has heightened emotions. I like where he's going in the direction of vtubing though.
