I've always had a job since I was in high school. A decade a half later and my life hasn't improved. My only hobbies are watching anime, vtubers, and playing video games. I hate where I am in life and have a dead end job working with kids that just graduated high school themselves. I tried college and failed. I keep signing up for classes but I fail more. I’m the director of operations in a major company in Kansas City. I make six figures a year, and I am very comfortable. I did the successful and alone thing for awhile. I hated my life in the moment to moment but I kept coping that just a raise, a promotion, a new car, whatever would be the thing that made me happy.
I took a long vacation to Nippon and realized how fucking miserable I was, and got laid off with severance basically as soon as I got back. The Game of Screams

This evening Shiori is over at your house, tonight you're trying out an AI developed horror game together. You've heard great reviews. You know she gets pretty scared so you keep the lights on. It starts raining outside, you can barely hear the rain. As you both get into the game, something feels off like the smell of slightly expired milk. You have played many video games, and you know how difficult the horror genre is to successfully develop. As you both descend into the game, it is freaking you the fuck out. Shiori is already squealing in your arms. You're putting up a good front because one of you has to hold the controller and pretend to play. The storm gets more violent outside, you can hear the deluge on the roof pounding to get in. Shiori occasionally takes peeks at the game with her golden peepers in the safety of your warm arms and lap. You both are engrossed. This is the scariest game --no-- scariest thing you've experienced in your life. The AI somehow has distilled the pure monkey terror experience. You know for sure you are going to have nightmares tonight. Shiori is barely looking at the screen anymore. You are sweating profusely, the front you are putting up for her is not going to last. You see a huge flash of light outside and then seconds later, a window rattling clap of thunder. You both scream. You give nervous laughter at both your reaction. Shiori's nails bite into your back. Then the power goes out, right at the scariest moment in the game. Shiori gets up in a panic and tries to turn the light switch off and on again in futile attempt to restore light. The whole house is dark. All you hear is the storm violently crashing outside. You're freaking out inside, you almost think this was part of the game. You call out to Shiori and you wrap her shaking terrified soft body in your arms. She smells like lavender body wash. You go to the last fortress of defense, your bedroom. You get Shiori in safe and pull extra blankets out on you both. You know you are going to have nightmares tonight from the game. Shiori is trembling onto your body like the last autumn leaf. You are her anchor of sanity. Despite how terrified you are, you hear her whisper your name, and a smile squeaks out onto your pale face. All the fear starts melting away knowing you can protect this deranged loveable little lamb from the terrors of the night. You'll both always remember this memory and the Game of Screams.

i liked the story and reading about shiori~n getting scared is a nice change of pace. if i could make a few suggestions, it does feel a little monotone and stilted when you read it; i'd suggest using more conjunctions (such as if, and, but, etc.) to combine some of the sentences and cut down on the usage of "You".

so instead of having something like "You go to the last fortress of defense, your bedroom. You get Shiori in safe and pull extra blankets out on you both. You know you are going to have nightmares tonight from the game."

you end up with "You go to the bedroom with Shiori, your last fortress of defense and pull extra blankets out on you both; you're sure you're going to have nightmares tonight from the game." or "You both scream but nervously laugh afterwards at your shared reactions."
