Depends, they should get at some point towards a stable number and on some days there might be those cards coming back that have like already pushed back by a month.
You could set a maximum reviews per day but if you need that then you have too many new cards per day.
Also if you get below 80% accuracy you should do less new cards, if you are at 98% or more then you can very well increase them.

Depends entirely on the person, really. Splitting things is not always a good thing. I learned both at the same time and sometimes remembering the kanji was easier than the word written in hiragana since there's a meaning associated with kanji.

I think different people just learning things differently. I listened to the internet's advice and tried to skip learning kanji and just do it all through words. This did not work for me at all, and once I started memorizing kanji specifically as well with wanikani, I started making progress a lot more quickly. Of course you can't JUST do the kanji, this is combined with grammar, vocab, and lots of native material reading/listening.

I'm sure it's different for different people though, so you kind of just have to try things and see what works for you.
