Can't all VTubers realize this? Why the fuck are you using a persona if not to create an experience distinct from reality?
Imagine a wrestler stopping the show to remind the audience that it's all an act and then insulting them for having a good time.
It demonstrates a disconnect from the social scripts that underlie the VTuber-streamer relationship. Fauna's "we're not friends" broke the kayfabe and left the audience with a sense of anomie, leading to some viewers leaving the community.
Thankfully, Fauna seems to understand the VTuber role better now. Not only should you stream regularly, but as a VTuber there's an expectation for some degree of kayfabe (Again, why even use a persona/avatar if kayfabe isn't important). And as a result, we see Fauna rebounding. It's no mystery why she's had much better success than the Council average as of late.
