This is only true for the top tier corpo vtubers like Gura, Marine, Pekora, etc. They stop being "vtubers" and they become proper company mascots that just so happen to provide content sometimes. It's very profitable. This is why Cover is probably totally ok with Gura just vanishing for long periods of time. They still get to sell merch, figures, plaster her character's face everywhere and profit greatly from it even if she's literally missing and not communicating with them at all. It's a win/win for everyone involved. She gets to fuck off and not get scolded or fired from it and the company gets to use her character for promotional purposes and make money regardless of her ghosting. It's such a perfect business relationship, I'm honestly jealous of how easy she has it.
