To avoid Magni just avoid people who would most likely be fine without the job and could easily leave, and who's values don't align with those of your company in any way. For Vespers it's incredibly hard to diagnose psychological problems in a job interview. You can look through their old content to try to find problems but if it's not obvious there's not much you can do. On paper he was a good hire.
