Flight sticks are a fucking rabbit hole and once you decide to go big with them, it's unironically over. You first start out with a 'cheap' set that gets you what you need, but why go cheap when you cna get something that lasts ten years, and you may want to fly different aircraft, so you get different sticks, and different throttles, soon you're looking at all-metal components and table-mounts. Soon you're bolting this shit to your chair, and before you know it, you're building a cuck-canopy made from real parts of a torn-apart F-18 Hornet so you can LARP as being the mall cop of the sky for as much as it would cost to get a real pilot's license

Honest question why not just move onto VR now? You can get the same experience with a Valve Index controller and VR Flight Sim in a jet or a helicopter or whatever and just use the controller like a joystick on the digital joystick surface

You actually can not. the problem with valve controllers, touch controls, and motion controls in general is they are GREAT for aircraft specifically designed for VR like VTOL VR aircraft. Where buttons are nice and big, everything is nicely organized into a grid and every switch juts out 1-2 inches where it's easy to select them.

Real aircraft are not designed that way, and touch/motion controls in a cockpit where a button could be less than a centimeter in size is a maddening experience. Which is the point of HOTAS controls, HOTAS means Hands On Throttle And Stick, AKA: You can control almost all things you need in flight by touch even if you can't see your hands. Which is why most VR setups for the autistic flight sims have the super expensive sticks and throttles with tons of buttons and knobs.
