That does seem pretty solid, and I'll look at the stream to see it in real use. In my case, my design doesn't have much for clothes or accessories, so I have to ensure that the facial animations are up to snuff since that'll be the main focus (even more than usual for vtuber models). Looking at other vtubers tends to end in pain since the "big names" use shit like IV that I can't access, or are JP riggers I can't communicate with. Alternatively a lot of indie vtubers have questionable rigging but I can't tell if its due to the rigger's skill level or the vtuber just paying for simple rigging to save money.

Industry right now is a bit of a mess due to being so new so its hard to get real good baselines for stuff.

Probably depends on how much the people you live with will take you into consideration. I live with my SO, and at the start will stream from the living room (where my main computer currently is). However, I've streamed before as a non-vtuber, and they watch this stuff all the time too so they know to not make any noise during streams. I'm working on getting stuff to turn our spare bedroom into an 'office' of sorts that I can stream from which will alleviate this issue.

>design
As the only real 'animation' you can have as a vtuber is facial animations, I'd consider that the main focus for design. Clarity of your eyes and mouth, and head movement as well. Everything else is extra.

This will shine through as you stream and be more engaging than "random vtuber plays shit they have no idea about #7691". For example, I'll be focusing on alcohol tasting/discussion and playing more niche stuff like diablo 2/PoE/metroidvanias (or just older games). Is it a big market? No. Is it what I want to do? Yes.

Pondering whether to set my stream to 'mature' or not. I want to talk about alcohol often, and would love to educate people on aspects of it. Including instilling a healthy respect for alcohol, and what to know ahead of time, for underage people. Not to encourage underaged drinking, but just to prepare them with knowledge so they don't do something stupid when they do start drinking. But people are often real stupid about all this, thinking any alcohol related topic is kid-unfriendly. Maybe I should shoot an email to twitch for clarification. At least then I could have something "in writing" from them. I don't expect many underaged people will enjoy my streams regardless, but I won't actually be making real 'mature content' otherwise.

>> No.5678545

>>5678343
You misunderstand what I am talking about entirely. I mean if someone seems to be under 18 for any reason, you have to ban them no matter what. Not doing so will allow anyone to report the streamer for "not moderating their chat" (which is an explicit option in the reporting system), which can potentially get the channel shut down. There are people who create accounts and join mature streams pretending to be under 18 specifically to fish for chances to report this.

This all stems from the fact that I would like to be able to answer questions about drinking from < 18 year old users without getting in trouble. But its too much of a risk of Twitch deciding that's against someones morals, so I'll most likely be setting it as mature. Which sucks, but oh well.

You know, I'm just looking it up now for clarification and I can't find anything in the TOS regarding this. I've worked with a few streamers that all have mature channels, and every one of them had hard rules for all moderators to ban anyone even suspected as being under 18 to prevent any issues. But as you all implied, there's no actual rule against it that I can find. I guess I learned something today. That's on me then, I was wrong. I'd raise a question against one of the streamers I mod for but at this point I'm stopping all mod work to focus on my own streams so its a moot point going forward.

Actually the scenario was based on rules I worked under for years so assumed were based on proper understandings of Twitch TOS. Which seemed to be wrong and now I question why they were the streamers' rules in the first place. But I was wrong in that assumption and so did what you anons mentioned and set the stream to mature only. And if anyone acts on stream like they type in these threads then that's a real point of concern. I'm mostly just typing like this at this point because it seems to bug you.

>>5706334
Using any vtuber model, even if you get a top-end rig, is going to lose something in comparison to a human face. There's going to be some half-expressions that it just can't do.

On top of that, you've got the rest of the body language. As an example, keep track of your arms and shoulders when you talk. Try holding your favourite book in front of you, and then stand still, reading the first several pages out loud without moving. Then let your arms and legs move, shift stance, and put on voices for the characters.

So you're at a disadvantage because your model isn't going to be quite as expressive as a real human. You're also at a disadvantage because (sorry) your artist and rigger aren't going to be the best. People will compare you to other vtubers, and your rig will probably not match up to theirs (unless you're blowing $6000+)

And you want to stack another debuff on top of that, and completely lose your face?

It could maybe work, (see: pngTubers migrating), if you already have a following.

I think it's more to do with the context. The problem with Zylphe and the one posted earlier is that they both seem to take themselves too seriously and don't really play off it, Zylphe for example was using a faceless model as an excuse to work less as opposed to figuring out how to elevate the experience.
I think a knight that sounds like a Monty Python knight would be pretty funny, with some proper muffling and fun accent. I gave fairly valid reasons why someone like Zylphe doesn't work, it's because they don't do anything to make it work out in the first place. Zylphe is just some dumb freeloader-wannabe that expects praise to come to them for doing nothing and not having a face is the least of their problems because they refuse to make their streams actually entertaining.
Besides that, even before the vtuber boom there would be streamers who would just put a static image of their OCs on the stream with not even any mouth movement that PNGtubers do these days.
I was never attempting to defend the people like Zylphe and the earlier one posted, my point was that the one way it could work is if you actually think out of the box and make something fun out of it, and that a face has never been a hard requirement for a successful stream as much as it is something that can elevate it if you're good with it.

>What's the point in spending any amount of time, effort, or money in a vtuber model just to not give it a face? Why not just become a webcam-less streamer at that point?
Whoa whoa whoooaa, anon. Unfortunately you’re thinking through this logically where you expect someone to think ahead, consider their options, THEN make a choice.

In reality, these people already blew $1-2k in designing a model that can’t emote without even thinking about whether or not any viewer would be into that (as well as not bothering to check if any other big successful streamer has a boring faceless model to make sure that there’s at least precedent for success) and now that they realize the massive blunder they’ve made, they can’t go back because that money is already burned so now they gotta stick with it and keep coping. “Y-yeah, plenty of people will stick around for my streams. People love staring at a vtuber who can’t emote for hours on end.”

It’s just denial anon, the first stage of grief. People like Zylphe are already on the anger stage. You’ll notice how all of their arguments as to why a faceless avatar isn’t a terrible idea stems from hypotheticals. “People could be into that. People might watch someone who doesn’t have a face.” Yet they can never point to a definitive successful vtuber whose done it because there is none.

What mic do you have? Is it an XLR mic or a USB mic?
If it’s an XLR mic, and it’s dynamic or ribbon, you might want to get a cloud lifter, or otherwise up the gain for your mic or (if you’re using a noise gate filter) turn off the noise gate
If you’re using a USB mic, unless it’s an Elgato or similar specifically designed for streaming or a USB version of an XLR mic like an AT2020 USB, you won’t get good results
If you do want a good resource for mics though (and for online voice acting in general) check out these two videos and maybe the rest of the series:

A super high quality design, rigged (and retweeted) by someone like Iron Vertex will garner a bunch of initial views, there's no real way to argue that. It'll bring in eyes when you debut/start since your artist and rigger will shine some attention on you, and bigger names mean they have more followers that will learn about you. However, from that point forward, your model doesn't mean much. Even a high quality model won't actually entertain people, it doesn't create content, etc. You have to actually be entertaining, or informative, depending on what kind of content you wish to create.

However, making a vtuber model that doesn't show expressions is effectively the same as having no cam and covering a chunk of the screen in a random PNG no one cares about.

Okay looking into it that’s a dynamic mic; explains why it kind of had some unfortunate softness. See, you need to purchase a cloudlifter with dynamic XLR mics, and without a cloudlifter things will be way too soft.
Also just for the record, USB mics are mostly not good for streaming outside of something specifically designed for streaming like the Elgato Wave 3, so if you see someone recommending a USB mic that isn’t like that then please don’t listen to them. Most USB mics have pretty bad overall audio compared to stuff like the Elgato Wave 3. Yetis and the like are good for gaming and talking with friends but generally stuff like Elgatos and USB versions of studio-quality mics (like AT2020 USBs) are better for streaming and longer recording sessions.

both examples are from ancient outdated programs that act as an overlay on top of the webcam feed using flat image tracking.

vtubing in the current year use iphone's FaceID which only collected depth map image which is created by shining IR dots on your face and calculating those. so there is never any footage recorded to begin with, just numbers that represent those IR dots.

vtube studio takes those numbers and translates it to movement, so there is zero risk of a face reveal.

other tracking software like FaceRig and Animaze don't output your webcam footage, so you'd have to intentionally go out of your way to select your own webcam footage as a source in OBS for it to fuck up that much.

I decided to not audition for Nijisanji this round and instead spend the time building a better YT channel until the next one. Hololive isn't even something I'm considering due to the extreme competition- and I personally don't enjoy the restrictions they have. I might try to join a smaller company and use it as a stepping stone for Niji, but it would take a pretty long time if I do that. I might be burnt out on VTubing by then too.

DESU even if I don't get into Niji or change my mind about joining a smaller company, a YT channel with a few hundred subs would still be nice. I already have a channel, but it's a trash heap with meme vids (no it's not the same quality as Gura's roommate). It does have a sizeable amount of views however (most popular one at 400k, and 20k on most of my other ones).

Guess it's better late than never to start a gaming channel.

>Does it have a winged version?
Maybe on a future 3d model but not this one. I experimented with how it'd look as just a 2d model and it looked weird. The perspective of the wings behind the head were distracting, not to mention they were massive, so they'd be constantly obstructing like half of the screen, so I streamlined it. I do plan on adding a hat like pic related as well as a pelt along the chestplate, but I'm waiting until we're done rigging it.

>>5757125
>the no-selfpromotion rule is more for shit like advertisers, brands, etc. shilling themselves for profit
gotcha. I just never know since I'm new here to the thread, plus I've barely seen any self promotion in the last few weeks anyways, so I just thought it might be a rule or something.

>your content gonna be thematic with the model?
Not really a lot of games with polish hussars. I might play some mount and blade for fun, but that'd be it. I'm mostly going to be focusing on some lesser known slightly older fps games, but that might change depending on my viewership.

>>5757177
>i totally get not wanting to shell out a bunch for your first model too you can always upgrade in the future
