Map updates depend on the when the either opponent edits the map. I did (after some annoying rework) make it to where I could request updates on command on the client-side, so yeah, itd be a manner of figuring out if there was an effect that currently needed to be animated, then letting it do its thing, then removing it from the list.

I'm more familiar with engines with a set update rate of usually 60 FPS. There normally you have each client running an update loop at a steady rate, and all updates sent or received from the network slide into one of those frames to display their effect.

Nah, all comms go through server, so neither client can fudge numbers or make shit up to cheat the game.
Its just that because Im not using an engine, things only get drawn when I draw them. So the grid redraws only when the server pushes an update, the cast bar only redraws when a spell is being cast, and the hotbar redraws every 100ms to give a more "real time" feel to the cooldown effects
But these are all just effects though, the server doesnt know anything is happening until the users actually input something

Thing is, it's a bit awkward to imagine anyone of them breaking out on their own and not helping the others aside from Kronii and Sana since they were aware of the loop and knew thigs would be fine so IRyS is a bit of a mystery (assuming I haven't forgotton a simple explanation and look stupid)
So assuming any of that even correlates with the Ancient Ones' corruption Kronii, maybe IRyS and Sana (if you can be both susceptible and resistant in a similar way wind can help either fuel a flame or put it out)

Lastly, their study of necromancy led them to the Revenant (aka zombies) and Bone Warriors (skeletons). "Helping" them is a certain necromancer blackmailed with extermination from the entiriety of Blancopolis after it was rumored she flouted The Red Doctrine.

Going from her lore she does like the universe and council although it also mentions that she didn't initially like that she was burdened with that task.
