Damn I really don't want to feed the rrat, but it is a bit sus that Gen 4 is more successful than any gen except for gen 3, but I don't think I've ever seen a full gen 4 sponsorship or even a Coco sponsorship. We all know Coco isn't your typical family friendly sponsor, but it is a bit weird seeing Gen 5 get so many while she gets none despite having better numbers.

I won't denying that moe is good for sponsors, but there's a lot of NijiJP sponsorships for people like Kuzuha, Kanae, Kenmochi, Mito, Joe, and Yashiro that aren't moe at all. There is a market that appeals to non-otakus and normies.

After thinking about it a bit more, it's most likely bad timing. Coco has had the taiwan yab as a dark cloud for the past 8 months or so which probably made her sponsor unfriendly, regardless of her content. Before that, Hololive wasn't big enough to get the same level of sponsorships as Niji and by now, she's already graduating.

Almost that forgot today is the big Google Play shill competition stream with 10 Nijis, but it doesn't seem like any of them are breaking 10k today despite Kenmochi getting 12k last time.

For Nijis it probably started from Gibara 3D. From there or maybe earlier, Niji 3D always have this culture where if you donate then certain things will happen (for Gibara i think its raining money?) after that all of their livers mostly have small donations at usual stream and big one during specials. For holos it probably started at Coco monetization i think? the culture itself probably goes all the way back to festival, that is they always read supas after stream. After that every subs milestone, karaoke, costume reveals, finishing game/last boss become an excuses to shower holomens with supas.

I don't think we'll ever know specifically how much merch is sold, only Anycolor and Cover know those numbers. Niji sells misc stuff on their store all the time, whereas Holo's merch is more time-limited stuff that they produce based on number of orders. I wouldn't worry too much about how much each company makes, they're both swimming in boatloads of money.

Like let's just do some simple and probably inaccurate math. According to https://hololive.booth.pm/, Coco's bday merch is hearted 3129 times. Let's just assume the people who bothered to heart is bought the 10000 yen (90usd) option. That's $281520 from her bday merch, before we count the old merch she's reselling. Again, this math is probably super off, but merch sales add up quick.

That's not really true, at least not yet. Despite the indie boom that has occurred after hololive broke into the west there's still not a single indie performing on par with hololive or nijisanji. The closest anyone's come is someone like bahroo who was already famous and just adopted a vtuber model for that extra gimmick, and those people don't really compete for the same market.

And don't get me started on the Japanese scene, that market was already saturated as it is before en debuted and now its even more saturated thanks to all the small agencies with delusions of becoming the next hololive that cropped up.

I see them less as competitors and more as complements to each other, at least for now.
