The "box" is so powerful because it crosses language barriers. JOPs watch EN holos and try to learn English. EOPs watch JP holos and try to learn Japanese. They translate clips, memes and cultural references to each other, and all of this builds "unity".
Holo was the big fish in the west during Myth's debut, so most of them knew about the JP holos and at least SOME of the JP memes, and so would have no issues building bridges between themselves. Myth also had 2.5 JP speakers (Kiara, Ina, with Mori being .5) and all of them created some nice friendships with a lot of their JP senpai (Ina with Nene and Lamy, Kiara with a bunch of JP holomem) and of course this trend continued with Irys and Bae later.
JP holomem also gave some effort into reaching out to EN, with Korone's collab with Mori, Polka talking with Kronii, Pekora trying to get ENs involved in pranks etc.
All this basically means that the fanbase becomes glued tight and stays INSIDE the box. They will be extremely reluctant to leave and find other VTubers in other companies, because none of them have the same comfy united vibe that Hololive does (this is arguably the only reason that HoloEN survived the 2022 drought).

We also have a very nice counter-example of this phenomenon among the Holostars. StarsEN considered themselves as "HoloEN kouhai" for the longest time. HoloEN got first dibs on collabs with them, and StarsJP had to wait for an additional week for the collab ban to be lifted.
There were a few awkward collabs with JP-EN, the JP stars as usual trying to reach out to their EN kouhai but unlike the girls side, the males were quite unreceptive, preferring collabs with the girls rather than their senpai, possibly because all of them sucked at Japanese and didn't want to make fools out of themselves (this used to be a big worry for the girls as well, but the initiatives taken by the Kiara and a few JP senpai made it so that they had a template to follow, and knew they wouldn't be made fun of even if they had broken English).
And unluckily enough for Tempus, their only JP speaking guy was far more interested in doing collabs outside the Stars Box rather than building the Holostars box and brand.
In any case, the "Stars Box" never manifested. The JP and EN branches grew estranged, collabs and interactions died off and StarsEN just became a sponsored subsidiary of HoloEN.

VSPO EN has the potential to be great, but it could also become something completely estranged from the main branch if they don't take steps to unite the two, by having some JP speakers and in general having more in-company collabs for unity purposes.
VSPO is far more vulnerable to this, because by their nature, they WILL be doing a lot of collabs with out-of-box people.
VSPO JP has still managed to cultivate a well rounded box because of all their group collabs, minecraft streams, and a few offcollabs, so despite them collabing with outsiders, they retain the identity and brand of VSPO.
VSPO EN will have to continue this trend, and for that they will need EN-speaking gamer/fps girls that also know Japanese. In addition, unlike Hololive they aren't really known in the west, BUT we know that they WILL have a few fans here and there. Getting one of these "VSPO fans" into the company will be critical - even if their skill isn't the best. Skill can be improved, but passion cannot be enforced.
Someone in VSPO EN who's an actual fan of VSPO in general (and not just a mainstream Hololive fan like 99% of other candidates) will be VERY helpful for VSPO unity.
