Pick a race that has a weapon bonus, which is most of them, and take that as a major skill and you'll usually have at least 40 skill in that weapon, even more if you specialize in combat. Redguards in particular can start out with like 55 in long sword. RPGs of that era were often way more brutal with hit chance than morrowind.

Morrowind's combat biggest sin is that this roll system is only relevant for the first couple levels. After that you usually hit 99% of the time. This makes it even worse since it only hinders the early game which is already pretty challenging because of slow walking speed and low skills.

You can chug couple hundredth INT and WLP potions and just levitate around throwing spells at everyone. Melee will never be able to overpower MW magic design.

Not saying melee is plain shit or anything it just can't compare to the levels of autism you can achieve with magic.

This makes sense in games which only has a basic representation of an attack.
If you attack with a kitchen knife you either hit or not. You might do less or more damage but the hit itself is pretty much a 0/1 situation.
In Morrwind you can have a paralyzed enemy the size of a horse and you can miss him 9 out of 10 hits. I love this game but that pretty much the one and only thing Gothic did better.

I don't know how Morrowind calculated it, but in D&D, you'd typically take a penalty to AC. Over time, game devs realized they could just program in % dmg reduction and get away from the binary nature of AC. Which is more or less why not RPG uses that system in more, except for TTRPG, and even then some of them don't use it (like the one role engine).

I have the most horrendous sleep, but I found out that Ame did a sleepy ASMR stream one time, where it's like you're laying down with her
