Being a vtuber in the West is just like wearing makeup. There's no stigma against women wearing makeup, but there absolutely is against men.

You could definitely try to emphasize your jawline, make your features more striking with makeup as a man - but the instant people notices your wear it all of that goes negative in appeal no matter how well it's done. It shows you care too much about your appearance as a man, and that is usually offputting to other men because of numerous reasons. There's a reason the 'gay fashion designer' trope exists. Hell I know a single guy who does facials - and he's gay.

Same thing for vtubers. Just having an avatar that is just a bit too good looking is like a screaming siren of trying too hard. Ironically this plays well for women instead along the subconscious lines of, "wow she's definitely not a cute anime girl in real life but the fact she went to this extent to look like that means, like, she REALLY wants to be attractive (to me)". While for males that feels mildly disgusting even though you know it's not directed at you.
