So bros, what writing plans do you have for the weekend? My own is pretty busy with other stuff, but I'll be going to the somewhat local renaissance festival tomorrow, so I might use the opportunity to nab some nice inspiration while I'm there.

This one has had me excited for a while. It's got one of those scenes that you come up with like months ago, and when you finally get to actually writing it, there's no satisfaction quite like it. This chapter was a good exercise in trying to flesh out a setting with various distinct characters and slowly painting a bigger picture to a larger collection of people. There's gonna be a bit more of that down the road, so it's great to get the practice in. This chapter also has some slow weaving threads in it and reveals that were incredibly fulfilling to get in there. I'm also stoked for the next part where I'll get to write how much this little Rainpuff has grown in such a short time. I hope you enjoy the read, and feel free to give me any feedback or thoughts you might have.

Thanks for the catch on the spelling error! Fixed that up. I can see where you're coming from on the wind being taken out slightly from that one scene, I was mostly looking to showcase how simplistically optimistic and unflinching she can be in most social situations. I think the way Nene talks is cute because she's my unga bunga wife.
That said though, as time goes on she will start to articulate herself more outside of battle. Perhaps to be more ladylike for a certain man in her life, but with all of her same goofy mannerisms, I'm really glad you enjoyed the argument though, I'm so proud of that bit and think you're gonna like what comes out of it.

I would say that unless whatever the twins are doing to fix you involves something supernatural or magic based, I might opt to keep it grounded in reality. This is like when redditors are convinced that they are the last bastion of free speech. It would be shitty to name names but there absolutely are /wg/ stories panned for one reason or another and it's pointless, even arrogant, to cherrypick "good" stories vs "bad" ones and then say the one site has better stories. Either you're fart-huffing and celebrating about a better writer than underages and women (mentally underage), or you're not even one of the writers and you're taking credit by virtue of lurking the same site which is even more embarrassing.
The only difference between the poor characterization is in intent; the bad AO3 ones are blank slates for shipfagging while the bad /wg/ ones are blank slates for self-insertion.

This is what I appreciate the most about this place. AO3 reader feedback is practically non-existent, the most I've seen there in terms of feedback were just simple compliments and praises. Sure it's nice to look at the numbers go up but it's really hard to tell if you're improving over there.

I used to get kinda down by it when comparing my numbers to others, but I got over it since this is just a fun thing I enjoy and want to do with all I got. It also might be a reality of the fanfic general audience space that fantasy adventure ain't a huge draw, but I could be dead wrong on that.
I'm pretty sure I dug my fic's own grave once I got AO3 access though. I uploaded 8 chapters worth of the thing all in one night, without really realizing then that most readers don't binge series like I did.

While I certainly appreciate the comparatively more frequent feedback here, that's intrinsic to any small community that has a large proportion of writers simply because it's statistically impossible to get thousands of hits all from writers. There's a holo fanfic discord that has lots of reviewers for the same reason. It's a purposeless contest when /wg/ is already busy hosting a purposeless contest zing!

I think the reason a lot of work here tends to be higher quality is because people don't hold their punches with critique. On AO3 it's a stream of positive reinforcement but here, people dissect your story to the letter for any mistake.

Doesn't mean all writers listen, doesn't mean all writers improve from it, but it definitely does, I think, keep the quality up. Though even then they could probably use a clean-up/once over for flow, and could probably stand to see if cutting up the paragraphs would improve readability in some of the more "actiony" parts.
Other than it's kind of lacking in a plot to give this entire thing a point. That sounds like a funny series with a Monster... or well Kid of the Week gimmick. Every chapter a new kid born of fucked up circumstances comes back in time seeing the fucked up state of their parent's relationship and thinking they need to fix their it if they want to keep existing only to start fading away as the timeline erases them after altering their parents relationship for the better.
I could see it being done in two ways one as an anthology where it's the same scenario played by different chuuba kids in different circumstances. The other way as it being a harem fic that only grows larger as the kids born of one night stands and or desperation accidentally keep fixing everything.

It sounds like a fun idea, but the concept of this kind of time travel doesn't make sense to me. Why would there be some slow fading, and wouldn't any change, even minor, result in some changes to your future self? It's so much more complex than existence vs non-existence. As soon as you made a slight impact on the past a myriad of butterfly effects would occur which would change the future and likely create a paradox where the changes you made in the past would result in you not traveling into the past in the same way.
Time travel can't really be more than an awkward and messy plot device unless you go with the "every change creates a new timeline" approach, or the "there is only one unchangeable timeline" approach. Doesn't mean you can't have fun with it, but any emotional impact a story could have would be dampened as soon as a reader noticed these problems.

Starsword Infinity was a short story that I wrote on a random whim, mostly as an excuse to write about being shirtless in front of Iroha.
