How many anons are currently writing something for the contest? I only have major WIPs, so I don't have anything cooking for the contest at the moment. It seems like a waste to let an opportunity like this slip by though, so does anyone have some short prompts they want to see written? If something catches my eye I'll whip up a short story.

I like writing on occasion. This took me about an hour to conjure up and I did not spend much time cleaning it up so the ambition was just to have an entry chapter and be done with it.

It's always good to see newcomers arriving with their works.
I would first of all recommend splitting up your paragraphs. Using only single line breaks
like this
work in books because there's pages, but on a screen where the words are just one long line, double line breaks

look a lot better. I would also recommend putting in a line break for each time someone new begins to talk, instead of having Guy and Shirori speak in the same paragraph.
As for the story, there's not a whole lot I can say since it's a bit short, but aside from Shiori's dialogue feeling a bit weird it wasn't bad. Better than when I first started out for sure.

I don't really see the point of a door. If you want to have a guard that can actually spot dangers from afar it'd need to be outside, which means that a door would only make it harder for the other pack members to see what is happening outside and to join the guard when it wakes them up in an emergency. The only thing a door can do is keep invaders out, but you won't have much water or food in the cave so you're forced to leave sooner or later anyway. Your defense methods should be fighting, running or intimidation.
