This isn't exactly the same thing, but I look at it like this. I browse /fit/ and anytime I see an anon make an effort to improve themselves I give them encouragement where I can. In that moment, I see another human being trying to make their life better, and in some small way I want to encourage that.
I think for some streamers, they genuinely feel the same way. They can't put their arm around you and say "Keep it up Frank!" the way your friends or family can, but that doesn't mean they don't care in some small way. They obviously can't care about "you" in an individual-to-individual sense, but they can care about "you" in a general, collective sense, in the sense they recognize you're a fellow human being with feelings and a life, and therefore they wish their fellow person to have a good life. Especially because I imagine many of them do feel a sincere amount of gratitude to their audience, as well. So wishing them well reciprocatively is a normal response to that gratitude.

I leave a degree of detachment between me and this hobby but I totally understand, she nails the "autistic menhera girl sperging about 6 different things in the span of 20 minutes" I tended to imagine myself wanting to be around. Because all you're left to do is listen to her sperging for hours it makes you feel like you're doing something correctly, because in real life most people DGAF about whatever stupid hobby I want to go ranting on about so I grew to feel bad about becoming too obsessed over too many different subjects. In a sense just listening to Shiori without directly interacting with her gives me a sense I'm acting in the same way I wanted to be treated by others when I did the same kind of sperging (about vidya, programming, linguistics...). That kind of desire lends itself strongly to the vtubing format. For me at least there is a sense of watching a more candid and outgoing version of the wilted kind of person I am when I see Shiori. And good Goddess is that a powerful pull.
I think she has an understanding of that kind of latent desire in people like me that grudgingly return to this content over and over again. I find "GFE" kind of a weird term since I can imagine relationships can go in a lot of different directions in real life whereas I tend to associate the term with dating or romantic activities. For someone like me watching a girl sperging out about a dozen different things in passionate detail *is* the GFE itself. It's so on point it makes me guilty for trying to imagine myself with her in anything more intimate of a situation (even so much as dating).
So I'm incredibly satisfied just listening to her be a dork and a nerd, although I have to wonder if/when that is going to change for me.
And for the record the yumejoshi bit is appealing to me since it means she probably thinks about the nuances character dynamics in fiction more than usual.

Obviously it's because of the voice and nothing else. A woman's voice cab get quite deep and mature sounding, both in the west and in the east too. But Asians typically have a higher pitched voice on average more than Anglo-Americans/Europeans. Many of the fans seem to want the girls to sound like babies, more so than even Japanese voice actors. Some have said that Nerissa has a deep voice but her voice is actually more high pitched than low for a woman on average and globally too.

Given this it's easy to understand why white women don't make it in. Because their voices tend to be too low for them to sound like infants. It's a problem with the English dub industry just as much as with VTubing. One of the common techniques in English dubbing is to try to sound like a baby which gives the characteristic English anime voice. But it's worth noting that this is not how seiyuu do it except for very specific roles. In short the problem is as much to do with the western community and their expectations.

Well yeah, I've pretty much accepted that I believe. Several thousand other people watching her could think like I do for example and she'll never even realize my existence, even three years from now if she hasn't moved on by then. I'll be 31 at that point. I'm part of an amorphous blob of viewers. It's an industry and she's doing her job. But if anything seeing someone I identify with at least caused me to start thinking about my situation more. I think it could get me motivated to start reading again, I remember liking Notes from Underground but didn't get back into reading more like I'd thought. So it's a good thing she leans /lit/. Agreed there, I talked with a girl once (just platonically) about vtubers and random obscure incidents and clips I remembered, she was into collecting manga and Gunbuster and the like but didn't watch them at all except Kizuna Ai right when she debuted. She didn't get into them still. I keep believing that was because she didn't lack the things in her life that would keep her watching vtubers for so long and persistently like me since she had a more traditional school social life and such. I used to just like watching the dumb hologra shorts because I found them amusing but started binging entire streams in Japanese months later without the same critical mind. Thinking about it now that was a lot of time I spent. Not all of it I regret though, and I haven't watched anything for a few months until Advent a few days ago.
I think going straight for "dating" is too hardcore for me when I'd be better off just making friends who happen to be women and nodding along in satisfaction. Ideally autistic sperg women like the niche Shiori fills but they're extremely hard to find. And then whatever happens happens without having to stress out about it too much.
