The JP market is obscenely saturated, I think most vtubers probably tend to stream to less viewers than Michiru had JP chatters, granted most are very casual. Hopefully the EOP numbers make the algorithm happy and she picks up more JPs as well.
Taking advantage of language barriers is an easy way to break away from that competition, but major players are starting to catch up there as well. It's just the reality of anything like this that it's easier to find and cater to a niche demographic unless either your streams or your marketing skills are top tier.
