I've always wondered if this worked against her. Maybe Cover saw her previous experience and wrote her off as someone trying to cling to fame.
I imagine the ideological purists in this space would prefer their favorite streamer from NND be given a chance. Accepting Nene might have set a precedence of taking on former idols. If Hololive is really an idol agency, wouldn't actual idols have a huge advantage? How can ordinary streamers be expected to compete with someone trained to sing, dance and be charismatic?

While they do claim to be an idol group and produce lots of idol content 99% of their day to day content is still just regular streams. Sure it's nice to have your once or twice a year concert look good but most of their top earners are the girls who focus on game streaming.

Not that I disagree with you but its a bit hard to directly compare though. Cover may have been dedicating extra resources to the EN release since its a whole new branch. Plus Kiara's immense fluency in Japnese and past experience being an actual idol in Japan as a foreigner is a significant advantage that makes her stand out among the other EN applicants and someone that Cover would need for the EN branch.
