I, at least, just fell down the rabbit hole in November. I've watched several of the girls from the different branches and enjoy them quite a lot, but the feeling of being a stranger who is trying to get into an existing community is definitely palpable. It would be the opposite, actually. A game provides 10-100 hours of very tightly focused enjoyment, but with a vtuber (at least, let's say after a month of activity) that's 100-1000 hours of streams to sift through if you aren't using clips and browsing threads. Part of the appeal of the initial days of a new generation of vtubers is that the signal-to-noise ratio is high and so it feels like every Tweet and every collab matters a lot more than it does down the line.
