The collabs were actually banned when that happened and Cover had just announced StarsEN to try to ride on the Luxiem bandwagon, so I can understand them having some resentment over them. To be fair, /vt/ is laughed at by vtuber fans on the outside specifically for our insane tribalism and ravenous hatred for males. I watched some AX streams, and in the real world plenty of fans had a mix of Holo, Niji, or Vshojo merch. Ironmouse's panel was streamed and she talked to a lot of people including a guy wearing a Pomu headband, and a Pekora cosplayer. We're basically a containment zone for some of the most unhinged and obsessed fans.

We know there are plenty of people that seethe at "idol culture" in the western fanbase. Regardless, most of the top holos follow it, and enough of their fans enjoy it. Holo being more unicorn-friendly has never filtered people who never cared either way in the first place, but it did attract people who appreciate that environment.
