A few of us here are old enough to remember when there was a genuine question about how effective socialism would be. Intelligent people thought communism might have some answers to the ills of the post war world and capitalism’s weaknesses. Then everyone saw the answer. It’s weird that young people are rehashing the arguments college kids were having before they were born, and before millions died and made the answer obvious.

The issue is that it was never about how effective socialism is, but about how effective those are who try undermine it, compared to those who try to support it. And it's very well known, that the CIA is very, very strong, even compared to their USSR counterpart. It never had anything to do with whether socialism works or not, but which secret service was more effective. Also, keep in mind that the objectives are asymmetrical, one side has an easier time accomplishing their objective than the other, because their objective is simpler.
