I think it was. Anon and Miko were survivors of trauma, and a brutal one at that. Attempted suicides on one part, bottom alcoholism on the other. Neither will ever truly heal, but that's the thing about trauma. You never really get over it, you just learn to live with it. No amount of therapy or time will unrape them, but the fact that Miko was willing to let go was the perfect capstone in my eyes.

I definitely agree that the main idea was underutilized. It was too late in the writing process that I realized that the crossdressing stuff is only there in the setup and is basically forgotten when the sex scenes come around. At that point I was unsure how to incorporate it more so I just left it as is. Anyone that has cosplay/crossdressing/feminization as their fetish will likely be rightfully disappointed by this fic.

Also, looking back at it, I can see how there might be too much comedy. Especially considering how much comedy and smut oppose eachother as genres.

Overall it wasn't a terrible read, but I can't help but feel like everything is barely connected via very thin strands. Like I'm not feeling the solid connection between the events at a first glance, when I feel like you are trying to very firmly tie things together. Why the fuck would Iroha just give someone a free shot at her when she had what she wanted? It seems almost too ooc to make her that cocky. It read like you were just trying to justify a forced stalemate and portray some illusion of choice for Civia. It all felt a little disjointed.
The scene in the throne room was pretty interesting, though again, I feel like the buildup is lacking in that the tone and situation shifts so radically within seconds. Though from one perspective, it kinda reads like a play where actors are stepping in from behind the curtain on their cue, so if I think about it that way, it kinda works. I'm more interested in the Anon, Mel, Civia circle of things though, and everyone else kinda seems like background characters at this point. Like I'm not even broken up or feeling anything over what Koyori did near the end of the chapter. It's just kinda there in a sense. It could have just as easily been a passage from a forgotten tome.

So if I start working from the end backwards, an easy thing would be that you could just straight eliminate that final segment reveal. Mel just foreshadowed that in the scene prior to it, let that sit and cook with your readers. As for telling the story of different perspectives and having them meet a central point, its not an easy thing to juggle, and there's going to be bumps in the road before you smooth out that delivery. I think some of my own critique comes from the opinion that those different perspectives aren't being given enough time to cook either. Like I'm not reading the investment some of these characters have in their own perspective. Everyone seems to just be along for the ride, and ironically Mel has had the clearest delivery in a while. Like I KNOW what she wants, how she's invested, and that's she's the type to kick the door down and get strutting. Related to that, it's okay to do some slight bending, I just felt like in Iroha's case, it was more of a forced bend to make her job. In regards to stringing together separate plot lines, having your characters be that questioning voices within their own isolated section of the plot is a good way to convey to your readers how they might actually connect together. Have Civia question what the hell Mel could be doing, and how it even relates to her given what she knows so far. The characters at this point should be questioning what's going on and trying to make sense of it in their own heads. Also, it might be a little hard to follow and the strands feel thin since at least in this chapter it was very much "Scene setup, actors enter, small interactions -> Spiked rising action ->someone gets jobbed -> scene end". The pace is just a little too fast for an overarching interconnecting plot. Though at the end of the day, it could be just a skill issue on my end, so take what I say with a grain of salt and always stay true to your overall vision. I'm just some anon, I can't take away what you got planned and the story you want to tell, nor should I ever be allowed to do that. In the end though, I think if you take anything away from my feedback, is that you can use your characters as tools to better connect the reader to your story. Look at all the players involved and consider all your options for presentation.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. Seems the solution to the multiple plot lines thing is simply practice. This is the first time I've ever had so many perspectives in one place and it's evident from how disjointed and scattered it feels. I'm surprised you felt that way about Mel, when I was writing it I was worried it would come off a bit too much tell don't show. That may actually be the problem, I'm trying to hard to show don't tell and in the process, it's just vague instead of subtle. Because now that you say it, the reception was warmer when it was just a singular perspective with Botan and Anon traveling together with little ambiguity between them and the plot.

I think you hit on the central point: it seems to be a skill issue. Good ideas, bad execution. If nothing else, once I finish this story it'll be great to look at in retrospect and see what lessons I can take from it and apply to future adventure novels. After all, this is basically the first adventure story I've kept with as long as I have (and intend to finish).

I agree that you might have fell into that hole of trying to show too much while saying too little. Showing can work in your favor over telling when the scenes have more girth to them and go slower, but your scenes are too fast paced for that, and there is little to no recollection of what happens through the character's voices. It's almost like they just shrug or groan over the last bad situation and move onto the next. You're well on your way to improving by responding positively to the feedback you get though, so keep at it.

You're writing style is very unique. One long paragraph followed by a short thought. I have to say, I've never seen anything quite like it. It works well and suits a short and mysterious protagonist, while also giving a reason to be a bit more expository in scenic descriptions.

I enjoyed the setting as much as I thought it would. The premise was artfully fulfilled. The main character is nice, mysterious, has his own personal hangups. It reminds me of an anime plot, part of that has to be the music choices, the other is the sentimental scenic depictions and Japanese working culture conveyed through its characters.

Having Sora as the pick for first girl fits. I only know as much as the others when it comes to her. I hope you'll continue to show us her charm.

Alright, the whole Mel and Anon thing's got me a bit hyped to see how that plays out (particularly with how Botan's gonna struggle with the ultimatum).
The other anon gave some pretty good advice so I wont touch on that stuff, though I'll try to elaborate on why the scene with koyori at the end doesn't hit nearly as hard as it should. Simply put, there's a lack of character development with Koyori. Apart from fact that she doesn't have much 'screen-time', her entire development stage is kinda skipped over. In the flashbacks, she was portrayed as a straight-up psycho that's apathetic about nearly everything not concerning torturing kids. But now she's... Remorseful? I get 200 years is a long time, but it would've been SO much better to actually see her change overtime. If the reader is shown the events which made her become more 'human' rather than being told she just is now, they would even be able to associate with the character. Personally, I would've done that through a few chapters dedicated to just glimpses into koyori's past, maybe sandwiched between the little downtime the main cast gets. Also doubles as a good way to give the readers time to think about what'll happen in the current time/what characters might do based on their past experiences. It's kind of like what you did with Botan, except focusing on character development rather than character establishment.

Yeah. This is a problem I keep running into, undercooking some of the characters. As the plots converge, I'm going to have one more down time arc and hopefully make sure each character gets their due before the oncoming climax. As I found with how the other anon put it, I was a bit too focused on show don't tell to the point where I made things too vague instead of subtle. the thing I was trying to hammer in with Koyori is how her memory lost changed her into the person she is now which seems to have missed the mark and I see exactly why: I was being way too vague with it in an effort not to come off as over expositing
