Sure, increasing societal alienation plays a role, but for the most part I think it's just that nowadays technology enables this quick and easy donation/message scheme for impulsive people in general, and also because it's public everyone else can see the messages as well and cringe. Back in ze day, fans had to mail out an actual paper letter to their stars (and they probably didn't also include a hundred dollar bill in it), and it wasn't made public for everyone else to cringe at. So we don't really know if the crazies are actually increasing, or if they've always been there and it just appears that way because we can see them now.

Anyway, usually the type of people who send these cringy "lets goooo" type messages are only doing it once, to get whatever "important" thing in their life they want to share off their chest, and then they're usually done. Sure, it's cringe, but higher for me on the list of crazy/pathetic people I don't understand are rather the type of guys who continue to drop multiple hundos stream after stream, so yeah whatever floats everyone's boat I guess...
