She let her fame (and at the same time, lack of real fame) get to her and influence her behavior for a while.
Her blatant alcoholism during that time magnified all her negative behaviors and habits 10 fold though, once she recognized and got her drinking under control she was able to start making some real personal improvements on other parts of her life too.
But once you have revealed how shitty you can be again and again for so long, people will rightly abandon you and the last thing they will remember is how awful you really are.
