Magni's never been an outdoors guy. He doesn't know how he let Vesper drag him out here. Showing off the place he wants to get married was one thing, but now the alchemist is trying to keep up with the inexplicably beefy scholar as they trudge along a winding trail. Uphill. Always uphill.
And it's hot. Hotter than when his PC heats up the room, which is about as warm as he's willing to endure. He's almost ready to suggest they go home when they come upon a clearing next to a picturesque lake. It's like something out of a video game, and Vesper seems so excited to set up camp. Magni doesn't have the heart to suggest they turn around now.
Magni plops down at an old picnic table and instinctively pulls out his phone. No signal, obviously. Now there's nothing to watch but nature's majesty and the older man busily setting up their tent, starting a fire, and organizing his tackle box for when they hit the lake tomorrow. Vesper insisted on bringing a fishing rod for Magni, despite his protests.
Magni was unsure of what to do with himself the whole evening. He would be in the way if he tried to help make camp, so when the sun finally dipped behind the mountains as Vesper started dinner, Magni moved to sit beside him at the stone ring.
Magni wasn't sure what the scholar was cooking, but it smelled incredible after a long day on the trail. He was so sure he would be miserable outside at night, with no climate control or internet, but he found peace just sitting beside the fire with Vesper. It was the first time he could remember being disconnected from all the stress and pressure of their lives.
Vesper slid a heavy, sweaty arm around Magni's back and pulled him close.
