Nah, the reason why tempus was accepted at first boiled down to two factors
1) iluna was debuting at the same time and while some holofags might not have been looking forward to them they were happy to see them succeed in order to counteract whatever the fuck nijisanji was doing.
2) people expected them to be like starsjp where both sides were on completely independent tracks with their own support structures and management and everything, so them debuting tempus didn't actually affect the schedule for EN3. It's like a spinoff product, while it might not appeal to you personally very few reasonable people are going to begrudge you letting your B team release a project while the a team works on the main product.

Point 1 slowly died over time as the iluna situation developed, but they were still mostly coasting well on point 2 until tempus 2 dropped at which point people who were previously ambivalent to them became actively hostile, as if to publicly demonstrate that no, they do not see tempus as a viable EN3 replacement and they should really stop trying.

In a way I see it as similar to the diablo immortal debacle where reception would've been far more positive if they has made it clear from the start that it was a spinoff rather than the next big entry in the series
