Coming more from the Japanese side (got into VTubing because the nicovideo streamers I watched became VTubers).
Especially the western part has a lot of insane people. I think the language barrier makes it easy to project your fantasies onto them and they are unfamiliar enough with the idol business to not notice what is real and what is the fantasy being sold to them.
