What if your general was not just a general but a nation, devoted to your oshi and their will? Enter this general where the fanbases and generals of /vt/ are reimagined as rival nations fighting bitter battles or beginning wholesome friendships for the glory of their oshis.

Aliens got that fat sci-fi dumpy, Some canonical clappers if you know what I mean. Imagine the intergalactic braps coming outta those holes, butt on a more serious note. Wow. Zero gravity must have some effects on the female form that modern Vitubian science hasn't accounted for cause goddamn Iofi's got a real sweller underneath those overalls. What is the scientific explanation for this fat piece of mass? We've gotta know something, every scientist and their uncle has had to pull out their rocket and take a few laps around THAT orbital rotation at least once. We need to do some serious digging before I'm satisfied with the secrets of that orbital body. What's the lore on Iofi? What are some non-humanoid alien variants of the normal Vitubians, some All Tomorrows type would be interesting.

I've got this idea for a species of deadbeats called protobeats, which are basically the natives of the Shindus system which the Vitubian deadbeats mingle with when they migrate to the system. I'm tempted to make them something exotic like a silicon-based lifeform that is fully mineralized or something like that, but I gotta give more thought to the planet's biosphere.
also loafy sex. Iirc they had flying saucers all the way back when, so they would have been the first to hang out in space. Maybe they were among the pioneers of the exploration of the Nebula? Alongside, uh, Pioneers kek.

Thanks! I came up with that when I was thinking how would people imagine Kokone’s logo when they don’t have a moon (I forgot planets have phases too) and I like how it came out! The fact that Kokone’s emotive halo also has a similar state when she’s sleeping is a nice touch too
For the vacation spot I think it depends a lot on the person and where they came from. For people from Despina, I think the dark hemisphere might be more popular since Armilla’s one of the few places they can enjoy the night sky without freezing to death plus it’s romantic. For people from the inner planets, the temperate region might be more popular since they don’t have a lot of rain or temperate weather in their homeworld. It’s not necessarily an either-or thing though since depending on how long the vacation is, you might be able to just drive your part of the resort to a different zone to experience a different climate. I imagine many settlements also sail around on a regular basis

Damn, that was good! I was really wondering what you were going to use for the blackmail and it was close to my guess ( personally Id have gone with some soil ), but you really blindsided me with the backstory reason for Ailbhe to care as much. That was a top notch touch.

Ah, glad to hear! That's why I had all those questions about sapling kids ha, I'm glad that got across properly. I think it gives a nice driving motivation to Ailbhe besides longing for the hive. The setup with the "controlled substance" aspect also gives a nice bit of moral greyness to the SMT, though you don't really know anything about them besides them being interested in chuubanite and being aligned with deadbeats.
I'd love to read about that ritual! No rush.

Time is a bitch. Interests come and go. Real life matters are much more important than writing fanfics. we have to accept that not everyone here is permanent. Enjoy it all while you can, dont take things for granted. ive had moments where i cried seeing the state we were in. Acceptance is the last stage of grief after all.
what you can do to make things better, is to not force yourself to write. youre writing for fun. If the board feels much more toxic than before (which is the objective of this project) it's okay to let it go. You lost interest in vtubing, you are welcomed to retreat. It's not a job, it's a hobby. Hobbies bear fruit when youre having fun.
You left behind a legacy, even if you havent finished anything grandeur you planned before, theres no point mourning a dead flame.

Maybe it could be as simple as because they're way out of the cluster, in a sparsely populated corner of the cluster (picrel)? So no one has been there in thousands of years. But if the other civilizations knew they were there, they'd want to come gobble up its technology and industry?
>Part of me feels that maybe they would be generals/vtubers that are lost/graduated but the other part of me feels like it’s punching down
Oh, so it'd be the resting place of /grave/? That could give them some nice representation, they did appear in LotB too.
Also, where in the Nebula are Hime Dominatus and the Sestag system? I'll place Shindus as well. Placing stuff on maps is nice.

Risuner fleet getting shot down during space scavenge would make sense, I think the survivors and the planetary conditions are going to be the real kicker in how it all plays out but that's kind of a given.
>>52584647
I think salvage would always be considered to be somewhat worth the risk if repairs could be made to a vessel and some space nations might have a cultural connection to the survivors that they want to bring up preserve/recover.
Graduated fanbases is sort of punching down but at the same time, it could be a conglomerate of graduates so they're not totally alone.
The Land of the Lost exploration does sound pretty based.

I guess /grave/ would fit the bill and also matches the aesthetic nicely! I don’t go there often so some reps might have to be done
I don’t really know where Sestag’s supposed to be. I know it’s a red dwarf of average size (M5) and I assume it’s somewhat remote given the thread’s size and the fact that they’re basically left alone for 40,000 years but other than that I don’t really have a preference for its location

Something like that, basically a massive automated system that allow a whole spacefaring civilization’s infrastructure to be built without any human input. That might well be why everything goes south for the world since the people inhabiting the infrastructure has no idea how any of those works and were basically one societal breakdown away from going full Horizon Zero Dawn. Another idea I have’s that maybe the probe actually landed on a populated planet and proceed to pave over what the natives had because the builders didn’t know/care the place’s already populated

So basically what we currently have is
>location
A forgotten world that has a highly-advanced automated system capable of producing structures, vehicles, and tools (including weapon) without input or prompt. This is the result of a seeding program by an unknown/lost spacefaring civilization in an attempt to build a colony on the world without requiring a skilled population on site. The society occupying the infrastructure has since collapsed and regressed into a tribal state incapable of reproducing their previous technological achievements, but still know how to use the products of the automated infrastructure to various degrees
>population
Natives of the world that had their world paved over by the automated probe? Settlers from either the builders of the probe or someone who just happen to stumble upon it? There’s technically no reason we can’t have all of them. The natives might’ve survived in rural areas and managed to bide their time until the collapse, or they might have been subjugated and thus hold a grudge against the settlers. They might even play a role in the collapse (or so the descendants of the settlers claim)! It’s also possible that others found this place post-collapse and decided to settle down, perhaps outlaws that finds the tribal techno-barbarians a better company than whoever branding them as outlaws. A good chunk of them would be /grave/-related
>environment
It would have to have a somewhat functional biosphere capable of supporting unprotected humans (at least long enough for them to reproduce), although such an environment could be something that require active maintenance from the infrastructure (perhaps a result of the construction of said infrastructure), and regional failures of the system might render part of the world uninhabitable without protection gears. Depending on the scale of the pre-collapse system, the world might end up being on the hotter side of things due to all the waste heat produced
>incident
Risuners scavengers found the world and attempted to salvage the products of the automated system (if not the system itself), but is shot down by the natives or some kinda automated system. They sent out a distress signal through the catalog and the story is focused on the rescue party. The scavenger ship might have since crash-landed on the world? Presumably the value of this world (whether for anthropological, economic, or technological reasons) prevent people from just bombing the place and rescuing the risuners (or not…) so an extraction/expedition is required. Establishing relationship with the natives would be useful for the same reason

>> No.52614827

>>52614100
Sounds about right.
Unsure if it was intentional but its funny that risuners getting into shit and causing international incidents continues to be a thing centuries into the future.
I think at this point risuners have had such wildly different characterizations that anybody can really write an accurate depiction as long as its not a completely braindead caricature, though their initial ship/vessel would be an important point to start off of if we're not immediately going to begin connecting narratives.

>>52614100
Nice summary! Having some kind of forever war (or most of the time war) between the natives and the implants from the probe might go a ways to explain why societal development is limited even though the technology is advanced.
I think it might be neat to work in the cyclical nature of /grave/ as well. That's kinda self evident, but I did some reps to be sure and basically it pops up whenever there's a graduation, right? What if that was what made it possible for the system to the discovered? That wouldn't be directly important to the plot, but I think it would make for nice background lore.
Like, say the system is shrouded in dense vitubium clouds on one side of the Nebula, such that it usually can't be seen from the outside. Maybe the stellar object of the system has a lot of vitubium attuned to graduated chuubas, such that it becomes more energized when there is a graduation.
When that happens, the object emits a vitubium flare which pushes the cloud off, making the system visible to the outside for a short time until the clouds reform and /grave/ goes into hiding once more.
This kind of violent event would also be another factor to impeded societal development.
So, basically every couple hundred/thousand years when a big chuuba graduates, the /grave/ star farts, pushes the clouds off a bit, and there's an opportunity for someone to notice the system (in this case, a Risuner ship).
Also, focusing the story on the rescue party definitely sounds like the fun angle! With like a prologue for the Risuner misdventure which ends with some kind of cliffhanger.

I assume risuners (in general but also in this case in particular) are not really Kender-level suicidal, just that their origin as treetop browsers for nuts with a bit of hunting on the side makes them intrinsically more curious and proactive than normal humans (kinda like palkyries when you think about it) so they’re more likely to get into troubles as a result. That disposition would also translate well to scavenging so it fits their existing characterization

>>52615040
I like her…
I think another way to include the cyclic nature of /grave/ would be to make the infrastructure’s output unstable. A lack of maintenance and gradual decay of both the system and exhaustion of energy source (vitubium? Maybe that’s why the world is shrouded in vitubium in the first place?) mean it’s only sporadically churning out products, and the scarcity would help fuel the conflict between the groups too (especially if the groups require the products to survive e.g. implants). That might also explain why the risuners got shot when they try to scavenge here (if they weren’t attacked by automated defense)
Since /grave/ seems to only pop up when there’s a graduation, maybe graduations lead to the excitement of the residue vitubium in the system, so when there’s a graduation, the infrastructure enters a temporary phase of activity and produce a lot of stuff from it? That would likely make them more detectable as well. It might also be why the world’s /grave/-aligned, since the followers of the graduated would logically want to find any signs of their corresponding vitubium signal, this world would end up attracting them if they happen to be wandering close enough to detect it

>> No.52617479

>>52616025
Ohh that's good! That would explain the congregation of /grave/ affiliated people there, if this is the strongest source of a signal corresponding to their oshi they can find, and it pops up right when they graduate. The two inclusions kinda work hand in hand, too. I read somewhere that stars and their planets tend to be made of the same stuff (since both come from interstellar medium congealing. So perhaps both the star and the planets have this type of vitubium. The stuff on the star creates the flare that pushes the occluding dust away, revealing the system, and the heightened activity of the infrastructure points out the planet to observers.
Followers of the recent graduate get drawn in, like moths to a flame, and the clouds close back in on the system as they get embroiled in the conflicts of the planet.
This most recent event would be caused by Nina's graduation I like her..., but the ones whose eyes catch sight of the system end up being scavenging Risuners.

I might put together a doc with the various fanbases that can be found in a /grave/ thread, so we can get an idea of the population breakdown.

Am here now.
That story was mostly me derping around with alternative what-if scenarios.
An anthology of sorts.
I was not expecting one of them to be reality. That was written before the /freak/ idea stuck.

The story is about a potential future where the Yectic alliance consolidates into one nation. Like the EU becoming one nation.
The factions featured are as follows:
>Gate Keepers (I didn't get any conlang ideas for this one)
Funny name aside, the Gate Keepers is an extrapolation of /meat/'s thread hijacking phase. The faction is made up of nationalists and militarists, with support of the priesthood. They believe that the Chuuba Apocalypse is not caused by too many corpos, but by schizos and trolls. Their goal is to invade and attack troll and troll aligned nations.
>Cuicacahualli lit Counting (time) Singer
Cuicacahualli is the syncretic faction made up of intellectuals that has been exposed to Kronie ideas. Kroniephiles that want to mimic and follow /inf/. They switch the pantheon to kawaguro chuubas in a bid to start anew.
>Cemellesamband lit Peaceful Federation
The full reformist full native faction, represented by 'One True Inward Perfection' on the compass. Made up of intellectuals, moderate nationalists, and overwhelmingly the traders/religious progressives that want to maintain peace with the AIlivian Treaty. I could say that they're like Sweden/Denmark. Historically raiders and warriors, then reform into beacon of example. Significantly, raiding and human trafficking has stopped entirely. Religion, we still follow the same pantheon but the kawaguro and non-ryona fringe chuubas are also promoted to be on the same level as the previously /meat/ dominant pantheon. Slavery and sacrifice would still be practiced for religious reasons but only for the willing. No more capturing foreigners and making shipew out of them, only among the religious followers. Since it's a federation, the level of reformation varies between the states. The more inland Nacatlah could still be the last remnant of pre-unification /meat/ culture like we have with gc. Arguably our canon ending.

>Cyclical flares
>Vitubium shroud
>/grave/
So, black hole time perhaps? I fucking love black holes.

What /grave/ could have is a vitubic black hole (hereinafter "object") that "feeds" on magical and conceptual energy. During normal times the object would stay mostly undetectable, if not for its gravitic effect if it is given one: since it is vitubic it might not even fully exist in real space and could be actually invisible and have little to no gravitic effects when not feeding
When something significant happens and there is a lot of excess energy in the vitium field, the object starts to "feed" on that energy, accumulating an accretion disk and eventually polar jets, which then in turn punch holes into the Vitubium Shroud that hides the system.
like so
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7MjziPLsDU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LN3BajQlqqE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWd27AS-_yI

So, we get a magical quasar-like object. Since most of the energy would be outside of realspace, it would not be that destructive for the nebula itself but whenever the object would be in its active state, it would be most disruptive in the magical realms, which sort of fits if the system appears mostly during graduations.

A ship can get into the system by traveling against the current of the jet, towards the object. Since the jet is formed from the object feeding on excess energy, it would be composed of particles and energy related to the concept that is being consumed. How this would look and what effects it would have is fun to think about. I also think this would probably look very cool visually.
>Approaching an accretion disk from the above while bathed in supernatural light
The planet itself might orbit either the object or another star.

Using a black hole also allows us a pathway to some other fun stuff. Like utilizing the information paradox, or one solution to it: the Holographic Principle.
>The event horizon stores consumed 3d objects as 2d holograms
>Radiation leaving the object carries information about these 2d holograms
When the object feeds, and "farts" like that one anon put it, it releases light and particles encoded with the memories of the things the object has consumed. This would be thematically extremely fitting for /grave/. Furthermore, one could give this particles an electric charge, and assuming that the /grave/ planet has a magnetosphere, we get auroras.
>Whenever the object is feeding, as in whenever travel to the system of possible, the /grave/ world is illuminated by global auroras born from the energy of dead chuubas.
One could imagine the object to be akin to a flame that casts 3 dimensional shadows (of memories) into space around itself. Since the vitubium shroud is opaque to radiation, these memory-shadows would be painted into the shroud itself.

Other fun stuffs a black hole could allow is time dilation. Perhaps the reason why /grave/ is technologically stagnant is simply that to them, what is a thousand years to an outsider is only a century or a decade. From on outsider perspective, /grave/ is either slowed down in time or nearly stopped.

Serafi is surprised that chat doesn’t want her to always suffer, life’s good

It isn’t really prompted by anything (maybe except post-lunch food coma and bringing Atomic Rockets) but
>belyms have somewhat smaller social unit than humans
A remnant of main timeline /vnug/ due to a lack of intensive agriculture leading to a smaller population in general (just like the thread I guess) and prominence of hunting (including fishing) groups as the main source of nutrition. At the same time collective child-rearing is the norm for belyms, as the first generation of belyms are raised collectively by computer, and high mortality rate during the Long Night makes nuclear family structure less viable
>belyms have a stronger in-group/out-group distinction than (modern?) humans
A combination of both the carnivore-like diet of main timeline /vnug/ (have to be territorial when your food source is limited and can run from predators) and intentional engineering by their creators to separate them from the common humanity. The non-human physiology and somewhat different psychology also makes them constantly aware non-belyms are not belyms. I would say they’re always aware of difference between humanoid (sub)species but I guess that would be the norm for this site
>belyms don’t necessarily have the same out-group derogation as humans with the same level of in-group/out-group distinction
Somewhat more varied but potentially a result of the need to cooperate due to the hostile environment not unlike main timeline /vnug/. Might also be an engineered trait by their creators to suppress hostility from them. I guess the fanbase itself isn’t very tribalistic either
>belyms have strong in-group loyalty and empathy
Likely originating from the focus on hunting group of main timeline /vnug/ where high coordination is necessary to survive and acquire food. Further emphasized by shipboard discipline common for most non-Despina belyms – unlike on Despina (or humans on Earth for that matter), neglecting personal responsibility or ignoring others in need usually leads to immediate and painful death for everyone on board due to how fragile their life support system tend to be. Belyms also don’t handle solitary as well as humans due to their more collective nature
>(non-Despina?) belym polities tend to be… Terran Federation-y?
The emphasis on responsibility probably means individuals aren’t necessarily as free as modern first world – societal tolerance towards screwing around is much lower due to how lethal it could be for everyone sharing the same space. At the same time in-group cooperation and prominence of redundant system means belym society is more decentralized and fluid (at least compared to the usual hydraulic despotism), and individual belyms are more eager to participate in decision-making process. Unlike implied in the movie (and the novel?) the military probably doesn’t play a very heavy role (maybe except among moleyms as their shipboard life means most roles probably have a military vibe to it). Many prefer to be armed unless they’re in situations that prevent such

Put together a little list of chuubas that can be used on /grave/, there's quite a lot of them.
https://rentry.org/grave-demo
Might archive after adding a bit more flavor to it, in the meantime it'll be handy to figure out who the Risuners might meet.

Ohh nicely elaborated! Putting the really intense event in the heavenly realm is a nice touch, helps the whole process to not be life-ending for the inhabitants
>time dilation
Ah, the time dilation shenanigans, classic! That would add some nice time sensitivity to the rescue, since you don't want your rescue to take a hundred years in standard time... So there'd be more of an excuse to rush around and have to approach the situation more uh, proactively.

Less free but more decentralized is an uncommon combo, nice!
I was just skimming through the "Propulsion" section of Atomic Rockets yesterday, that part is both overwhelming and awe-inspiring.

Good job! Kinda sad that I watched at least 5 of them tho
Truth be told I don’t really know if me calling it “less free” gives the best impression given how loaded the word can be (although I guess you can say V&U can be seen as restrictive if you go by Western standards). On one hand what you can with without drawing the ire of society’s more limited than most first world countries nowadays due to the shipboard discipline (and punishment can be both certain and severe – Narim’s statement that showing up on shift drunk can get you thrown out of the airlock’s not an exaggeration), but on the other hand it’s not exactly a totalitarian dictatorship either since social hierarchy’s probably pretty fluid, and “commoner” belyms still like to have an input on things that won’t threaten the survival of the settlement/ship (and unlike us living on Earth, those threats are much more provably immediate, inevitable, and painful). I guess the closest RL comparison would be pirate republics? Or at least those in literature and pop history

Oh god, did /graves/ actually manage to archive any of her streams? I'm still not convinced she wasn't some kind of CIA psyop.

Oh man, I don't want to count them...
The comparison to pirate republic is very evocative, I understand better now. Those are indeed societies that were both decentralized and free, but also bound by rigid rules needed so that the society can work at all.
>>52716020
Yep, though that part is classified as "Far from complete". Pretty sure she's real, the CIA psyop is Lilianne Kuzu.

It can make belyms seem very capricious to foreigners if they don’t know why the draconian rules exist, which is pretty fun if I get to explore that more (could be difficult given how deadly the punishment can be)
Another thing I think of but didn’t include in the post above (since it doesn’t really flow well logic-wise) is
>belyms are more sensitive to non-visual stimuli than human
Probably related to their hunter(/browser? I feel that’s more a risuner thing) upbringing and the chuubanite extract technique of time timeline /vnug/. Belyms might also just have more sensitive hearing, smelling, and touching in addition to non-human senses engineered into them. Scent-mixing and texture-making is considered as much as a form of art for belyms as painting and music to humans. Sniffing and touching is also considered similar to looking at people in terms of social interaction – generally acceptable, although dependent on the location and circumstance of the interaction. It is rumored that belyms have, and can also detect pheromones to decipher other’s emotion and health, its veracity remains questionable, although it’s also a rumor that some belyms like to spread for fun

I won’t say it’s necessarily sexual (but I guess it could be) but belyms can probably tell alotta information of each other through sniffing. Moleyms probably do too since the people will have the “ship’s smell”. I wanna say it’s based on Serafi’s sniffing thing

The history of this thread is pretty storied so I don't blame newcomers having a pretty wrapped perspective on the threat and the project in general. Some of it is insightful though like we get confirmation that the thread as it currently stands is hard for new folks to get in. Also we now know where the 2nd /rrat/ anon went I guess
