The western scene is the only reason I got interested in vtubers enough to visit /vt/ in the first place. JP Holos are great but I wouldn't have even looked into them if it wasn't for western vtubers, because I don't fucking speak japanese.

I don't this this is the case, I think it's more that people are tired of the big corpos and have started spreading out and watching more indie/smallcorpo vtubers. Go in any of those threads and ask how much HoloEN they watch now compared to when they first started watching EN vtubers. There's definitely been some drop off from the larger audience as a whole, but I feel like the majority of it is just far more spread out than it used to be.
