I learnt all JLPT stuff. Can recognize stuff, remember readings and meanings. Helps with reading, guessing words and looking up shit without entering radicals/drawing. But aside from that, I got nothing.
When I started focusing on kanjis, my grammar, listening skills and everything else was more or less consistently between N4 and N3. And during this kanji-year it stayed exactly like that, because kanjis were such a big effort already I couldn't force myself for additional expose. That was all before Hololive exploded. Thankfully, it did, and I got some really good listening practice.

What I would have changed - never focus on kanji in isolation, like the anon above said. Best way I see it now - if you have some basis already, just try hard listening/reading and translating things, look up unknown words, add them to Anki, add corresponding kanjis as well.

When I started the dumb kanji grind learning a collection of 200 most common ones wasn't too bad and was generally helpful, learning general stroke order rules and all. But I continued that and by the time I got to 1000 it felt like I was forgetting more than I learned.
Turns out they just don't stick for me long-term without learning several word examples for each. Now I just mine words and practice grammar with some quizzes. Lots of listening and a decent amount of reading too. Mostly focusing on what I feel is holding me back then most at the moment

I started with religiously watching Watame for about half a year. She was more manageable because she speaks slowly and pauses a lot.
I listen to zatsudan vods mostly, so that I can rewind. To help me focus I play something brainless like minecraft or a hack and slash else I get distracted by text or plot and stop listening.

The way it usually goes is I listen to the stream, isolate a word in a sentence that's new, look it up in a dictionary, copy the word in kanji to a text file I always keep open. Once per day I dump the contents of that into my deck. I'm probably not very efficient overall but I need things to take the absolute minimum of effort to set up or I'll start making excuses.

I recommend adding an extra review for new cards after 30+ minutes so you're forced to actually recall the word the first day you see it. I disagree with the other anon saying "only 20 new cards" simply because there's no single number that works for everyone and wording it that way implies 20 is the minimum you should be able to expect to do, which isn't necessarily the case. Just do what you can handle. Stick with it and it'll start working eventually. Also two addons I like are auto ease factor and kanji grid. The former makes reviewing simpler and means you think less about ease and the latter is nice for tracking progress over time and looking at pretty colors.

I can only hope her throat holds up for Bloom because it isn't like she is going to rest anymore before it. I'm surprised at how good this game looks to be, like the design is just so good everywhere. I thought it would be some half-assed Minecraft-like clone but the building is so seamlessly incorporated into the gameplay with a ton of other system to it that the game holds up and doesn't feel like a samey grind.

I'm starting to realize why grammar is important because I know hiragana/katakana now and it's still pretty difficult to make sense of some of the words/sentences in DQ even though it has kana for everything.
