Considering how hard Haachama tries to speak it yet still sounds like she's having a stroke, and just gives you blank stares if an actual English speaker talks to her, probably her.

Judging on pronunciation is probably not accurate though as some Holos actually have surprisingly OK sounding English for their being basically completely unable to speak it (Rushia, Aqua, Ayame etc) whereas Korone has a thick accent but can stumble her way around rudimentary English surprisingly well. Then again Korone had an English coach for a while whereas the others probably just go off whatever tidbits they remember from school.

i am in disbelief how little english haachama knows. how do you study abroad that long and be at that level???
i find it very unlikely she is faking it simply because it doesn't make sense for her to do
if you were a jp and you could effectively collab with the ENs, why the fuck wouldn't you?? they're blowing up and you would simply be missing out on gaijin supers
there is the possibility that she's saving it for some big reveal along the lines of the haato/haachama thing, but Occam's razor says that she simply can't speak english well.

You don't learn to read or write a language by mindlessly cramming words mangled into hell with katakana. And you don't learn grammar by cramming stock phrases.
Once they leave school, they can go on with their life, encountering almost no English. Catchphrases in Japanese TV ads and the decorative "English" text they like put on things don't count.

Just because it's hard for English speakers to learn a certain language doesn't mean it's hard for speakers of that language to learn English.

Japanese is hard because of their utterly retarded writing system and a large degree of context sensitive grammar/expression. English is pretty simple all around, the only issue being that English vocabulary is derived from many different languages, which means it's pointless to try to guess what a word means based on root meanings, and that there's a large degree of variance between word spellings because foreign words for whatever reason never got a native spelling. Those are relatively minor issues compared to how fucking retarded Japanese is on every level.

>>489767
It's not that it's inherently hard for Japs to learn English, but that Japs don't need to know English to live a full life. You encounter similar issues in Europe, where people from minor countries are fluent in English because they encounter English in everyday life, whereas people from large markets often suck at English because all the media they would want to consoom is translated and everything is labelled in their own language. Japan has that issue x10 due to using a retarded script on top of everything being localized.

>> No.500560

>>500457
To clarify the second point a bit more: Japanese people never feel a need to really master English, so their English stays at a basic level and the second they graduate from school it drops off a cliff. The exact same thing happened to my French skills, because French is fucking useless and you'll never ever want to use it for anything, let alone need to use it.

Of course everyone would benefit from knowing English, unlike french, which is objectively trash, though a beautiful and elegantly constructed language, because English allows you to leave the stagnant pond of your home culture and open your mind to an endless torrent of fascinating new ideas.

honestly even in American schools the more "intelligent" kids for English/reading/writing were taught prefixes/suffixes in latin/greek, since those would give you a far greater understanding of how words are constructed/the meaning of things as a site-read, as opposed to just meaningless rote memorization. foreign students aren't expected to have a great grasp of the language. no fucking clue how she got through writing English exams, but besides those she'd be fine with Korone-level English.
and between her chuuba-voice and how hard it is to go from conversational to fluent in a
language, it wouldn't be surprising if her English still sounds a bit crap to a native speaker

Ahahaha oh nonono
Exchange students in Australia don't need to know english. I have done some assistant positions at my uni when I was studying and there was legitimatley chinese students who knew maybe 5 english words maximum, handed in the worst papers I had ever seen and somehow still pass, because the university gets to charge them four times the tuition fees of an Australian and will try to pass them to keep them paying.

I've had a couple of friends who were JET and they said that the way the teach pronunciation over there is terrible. Rather than try to teach correct pronunciation, they just half ass it and try to approximate every word in katakana. This leads to all kinds of extra vowels and syllables that aren't present in the english word. Also for some reason teenagers get really self conscious about actually trying to pronounce things properly. So they'd rather say コーヒー than coffee even though the two barely sound the same superficially.

That surprises me because my high school spanish was really good. By Junior year we weren't allowed to speak in English in class and we were reading (simple) novels and shit.
