To be honest, I had to see a psychiatrist to see if I'm on the spectrum. I am 90% sure I am, yet despite having all the signs, they thought I was normal.
This would be fine, if it wasn't for the fact that i've heard countless stories of people getting tested, being told they're fine, and then seeing a more advanced psychiatrist and being diagnosed.

Those people just keep going from one psychiatrist to another until they finally get a diagnosis. There's nothing more advanced about them. If anything, those psychiatrists who finally give them the diagnosis are actually grifters who give customers diagnoses just to make them waste money on medication that they don't really need.

Self-diagnosing is very common. Twitter highlights it and makes people feel more confident with doing so.

With a diagnosis, it could make you feel "normal" or will give you pity / praise. Instead of the gnawing guilt that you've been lying to everyone.

i guess that too many people go to the therapist "diagnose-seeking" in the same way some go to college seeking a diploma (as opposed to education). they want the credential so they can "operate" under it (i'm autistic, i'm an engineer, etc.), and if they already identify with the character behind the credential then they must feel like the only thing separating them from the title is time and not a set of skills/symptoms, so rather than await (and discover), they demand (as if they already knew), otherwise they'd be be wasting time, and nobody wants that
it does make some sense, people tend to want a credential so it saves them time, it's meant to speak for them. plus you can sound entitled if you demand special treatment when you can't "prove" it's warranted, therefore you'd want some validity to your demand. it's similar with professions, except it's about the things you offer and not the things you need

Well the issue is how fast the psychiatrist "diagnosed" her so to speak. 3 minutes of talking is a laughably short time to diagnose anyone with anything.
I also went to a psychiatrist, who is a specialist on adults with autism. First she had me detail everything that's been going wrong in my life (i.e. why I was at her office), how was my childhood like, she noticed how I acted during the session (she pointed out my stimming), and at the end of the session she gave me the online questionnaire of the local psychiatric hospital, she told me to ask my parents if I exhibited certain behaviors when I was a toddler, and a list of medical checks I would need to do before the 2nd session. Then and ONLY THEN she was like "Yeah, it seems you really are autistic because you satisfy criteria A, B, C" and then she recommended therapies and meds along with pros/cons/side effects and all that jazz though that was was the anxiety and depression I had at the time.
Saruei's psychiatrist, on the other hand, was like "you talk like a normie therefore you're not autistic".

Apparently like 1 in 35 kids are born with autism in 2023. Odds are def not in your favor if your thinking of having kids. But it sure as shit wasnt 1 in 35 thirty years ago. But being online you'd think it was like 50/50 with the amount of late 20s early 30s who claim it.
