Because it allows for the benefits of connection without the burden. Vtubers will tell stories, make jokes, talk about whatever is on their minds, thus simulating a friend, but you can turn off the stream any time you want. You don't have to interact with a vtuber any more than you want to. If you simply ignored a real life friend like that, you'd be considered an asshole for not being reciprocal. Meanwhile with vtubers, you don't risk letting them down or offending them, because the friendship is artificial.

Luna's purely playing a silly character and it's very obvious, she's probably rather normal in intellect, rather we don't really know the real Luna at all and she is more into her RP aspect than most any other Holo.

Aqua may somewhat be doing the same as Luna but given all the talk of how she behaves IRL (utterly sperg-like) and what she's talked about herself on top of her general mannerisms, does seem to perhaps be on the spectrum. Doesn't mean she's dumb, just awkward.
