Honestly I can understand, though I found IRyS seemingly defending the desperate guy trope amusing.

Guy ended the series one of, if not the most popular in the series due to how the Infinity Fortress arc went. It was one of those formative game experiences for me back in 98. I lived in a country that didn't give a shit about age restrictions. I'll never forget that part where you enter the office, read the police diary that's all Kazhad Dum Gandalf and the book ominous foreshadowing about some skinless creature taking them out one by one, then you exit the office and there's a terrifying, at the time, ps1-tier rendered cutscene and it comes at you.
The way the remake does it is certainly more jarring and shocking.

It's not like there's any real punishment for restarts. It's a "crying angel" level but there's way too many of those statues to play it smart, 6 or 7 is an overkill.

When you hear it howl you instinctively know you have to start ducking and weaving as best you can with the jank tank controls because those motherfuckers can slam your head into the pavement for a one-shot if you're unlucky. I think they're so effective because RE1 has a really gradual progression of threats leading up to the hunters, but RE2 puts you in a situation where you might have a shotgun if you did some counterintuitive shit before fighting it.
