Now that the dust has settled, can we all agree this was the most based and most correct take on the issue of "parasociality"?

>> No.49400885

>>49400854
It should be called parasymbiotic.

>> No.49401481

>>49400854
It's not parasocial if it's two-way. The sheer definition of parasocial states that it's a one way expression of feelings and desire.

>> No.49401586

>>49401481
It is, tho.
It's one-sided for both sides.
Viewers interacts with a non-existing character played by random girl being model.
That random girl is interacting with a entity (sometimes even called "chat" as its name) composed of random messages from people that she never met or had actual interactions with.

There's no actual person to person interaction. It's just two sides interacting with puppets other side is hiding behind.

>> No.49401612

>>49401481
I don't think you understand the definition either. It's about feeling like you've filled your need for social interaction when you have not actually been social at all.
It can be two way between a performer and a viewer because they never get to interact in any meaningful manner.

>> No.49401614

>>49401586
person-to-person isn't that much different

this video made me check her out and it turns out Lucy is pretty good, and she's somehow not a newfag

>> No.49402017

I knew an autistic girl named Lucy in high school.
She was very quiet and caring.
Then the local girls took her to parties.
After that I heard she had anal sex with all the guys.
The moral of the story, never fall for anyone named Lucy.

Some researchers use "cyber social" to describe these kinds of in between relationships

>> No.49402418

>>49402018
Makes sense. The type of interaction described by "parasocial" lacks any reciprocity while livestream interactions have it.
I doubt people will ever move on from the term parasocial though because it's too much of a meme by now.

Being parasocial doesn't require reciprocation but it's not necessarily one-sided either.

Also, anyone who watches streamers is parasocial. Even a little bit. There's absolutely NO reason to watch a livestream over an edited video except the desire to be parasocial with the person on the stream.

>> No.49402739

Even watching the VOD is parasocial if the person leaves a comment afterwards

don't think I'm parasocial to news anchors and radio hosts

>> No.49402898

>>49402801
That is literally the paradigmatic example of parasociality. The term was coined for exactly those relationships. And some radio personalities (like talk radio hosts) arguably have too much interaction to fully count.

I wasn't aware that you could interact with the news while they're on air. Lemme know which organization, sounds neat.

And in terms of intimacy and stanning and stuff, there's a lot of overlap between how fans treated Oprah and Howard Stern and Conan O'brien, and how people treat their favorite youtubers and stuff.

This is very true. It works in the case of fictional characters like actors playing a part in a TV series. I wouldn't be surprised if this also applies to anime or cartoon characters.
This is new territory that is still being researched that most people can't understand properly

No there is only one and unique based and correct take on the issue of parasociality, and is fiding and punching in the face each person who use it unironicaly until they cry and beg you to stop. Only trauma can fix twitter users, but you have to implement it widely as a form of legal duty for humans so they can't start complaining about it.

I wish lucy was here promoting herself right now.
She could read all about how hundreds of anons want to pound her mercilessly
And she's a sub bottom she'd get off to it
As long as you tell her what a good girl she is once you finished inside her

One side is an anime avatar, the other is a faceless set of names, the main advantage comes from not knowing how the other looks like IRL.

>> No.49412626

Most people who enjoy personality entertainers of any kind are parasocial. It's a matter of degrees. If you go super deep, it can cause you mental problems and whatnot, but I don't really care what you do with yourself. My simple rule is I don't mind whatever you want to believe yourself, no matter how deluded. It's when you start demanding other people or the entertainers themselves affirm your delusion, or else, that I start to have a problem. You want to ship two characters in an anime, have at it. You start harassing or threatening voice actors or manga authors because they won't make your ship official, I think you're a slug who should rope. Simple rules to live by.
