Realistically speaking the thing is. Hololive pushes enough merch to where even if they earned 5%, you sell 4000 pieces of merch priced at $33 each, with a 5% earning rate you get 6,600 off of that one piece of merch alone. That's over a months worth of superchats from that single piece alone.
Even members like Kiara who get a fairly decent rate of superchats only make 6-700 per stream, each of those streams though have about a 30% deduction from YouTube and another 30% after Holo cuts.
That's 343 dollars per stream and in order to get the equivalent of 6600, you'd have to make 700 a day for nearly 20 days.

If you're wondering why kson thinks she needs a 50%+ merch cut with vshojo? That's honestly a good question since vsj doesn't take the additional 30% of superchats and kson literally has streams where she'll earn 13k or 9100 after YouTube's cut.
