Are there any non-weeb anons here that watch VTubers despite not being anime fans?

I don't watch anime but I like VTubers/Japan
I like Korean stuff more desu but I like vtubers.

>> No.48751359

I'm not an anime fan, but I watch vtubers when they play games I'm interested in.
Though I'm not watching for the vtuber herself, so I'm not sure if it counts.

>> No.48751821

I watched Elfenlied like 20 years ago, something about Naruto 15 years ago, and watched Bocchi with Mumei recently. I don't consider myself a weeb.

>> No.48751835

I'm pretty sure non-weeb or ironic-weebs make up the majority of this board, anon. Seen plenty of people admit they hate anime but watch vtubers, and most people here only watch ENs.

I grew out of anime 9 years ago

you dont have to watch anime to like japanese stuff

>> No.48751920

I haven't watched a new anime in over a decade, and I rarely watch most gaming/zatsu streams. I usually just tune in for karaoke and live performances.
The only thing I watch vtubers for is to see cute anime girls with nice voices sing and dance. Simple as.
They don't even have to sing well as long as they are putting effort in.

I was always more of an idol fan than a weeb (like kiara) and I got into vtubers through that avenue.

True, but I'd be hard-pressed to believe all of those people proclaiming to hate anime are otherwise weebs into other aspects of nip culture. Some, sure, but most here likely decided they like the aesthetic of the avatar in contrast to face-cam streamers but otherwise give no shits about nip stuff. Hence mostly if not only watching ENs, with plenty questioning why you would watch JPs.
But those are just my observations, obviously there are outliers. They're just less vocal.

80% of ENfags are non-weebs. Why do you think they treat corpos as consoles?

Talent hate referencing anime because it dates them, chat immediately pinpoints their birthday and when they attended high school.

Marine is as legit otaku as it gets and she barely references media, having attended a catholic school and a black company after finishing college she barely had time to watch or play anything. It's a contradiction of capitalism, make a ton of entertainment but never give workers time to consume.

Similarly they also often openly hate JP vtubers.

I'm an old military brat that grew up in Japan as a kid off base. Getting a hold of genuine Japanese people is haaaaaard. I have no intersecting hobbies and they're generally not too keen on the whole U.S. Military thing.
So in passing I see Japanese people playing games as anime characters and see they want to reach to the English crowd...see tons of fans from Asia...
...and I'm still stumped. Who are these creative, rare people that I grew up around?

They hate the imaginary strawman they got told JP were like.

This is a big deal for me too. Japs are reclusive and I always wanted to get close to them due to familiarity with Touhou and Vocaloid I valued more than anime. I liked the little animated stories told in Vacaloid PVs more than anime.

Maybe TMI but my Dad was one of the people in charge of outreach etc and did a lot of work at a place called Shinsen orphanage. Some old memories of mine are my young self befriending some Japanese there. So it's one of my landmarks to check out.
There's so much to do but the Japanese do not make it easy. I've got this outlandish idea of becoming a Vtuber and pushing the USA/Japan outreach myself. Accomplishing my own goals in the process.
As normies would say...it's complicated.

I like anime, but I haven't followed anime shows in more than 10 years, so I don't consider myself a weeb. I don't watch Vtubers because they are related to anime, I just want to be entertained, and that can be done by the chuubas playing videogames, singing, or just chatting (zatsudan).
The anime aesthetic is nice but it's not a necessary condition to be a good Vtuber, in my opinion.

I like a few manga like berserk and vagabond but that's about it, I don't watch anime. I mainly just like Mumei, because she's Mumei.

>> No.48755366

I used to watch a lot of anime but I don't know outside of a select few.
I don't like how anime is all about a boring ass MC gaining unearned achievements because the industry can't survive without letting loser otaku self insert.

I just avoid mentioning old anime and go into historian mode when I talk about Lucky Star or something. Everyone irl already knows me as that autist who just researches the history behind everything for fun and knows stuff that otherwise has nothing to do with my work or interests.
It can’t be that hard to not reveal that you watched Kill la Kill or Madoka episodes while they were coming out.

I'm probably one most would consider normie, playing tennis at my local club on weekends and working as an accountant.
I still enjoy vtubers but ones with more niche, such as onigiri because she focuses her content on cooking and her entire setup helps facilitate that.
