I did the math once. Twitch sells bits on the low end for a 40% or so markup which improves to a 23% markup with the maximum amount you can buy. That means if you wanted to donate $1 to a streamer you needed to pay $1.40. Now, the streamer, once you give them the 100 bits you just bought, gets that $1, but you paid more to do it.

Couple that with YT's superchat cuts which is 30%. Now, if you donate $1 to them the streamer gets $0.70. If you wanted to make it so you donated a whole $1 to the streamer, you needed to pay $1.43, which is a 43% markup.
