Some shit draws in some viewers but repels others.
I will give you a straight forward example I'm very familiar with:
Finana
When Finana started playing Honkai Impact her CCV went up by a lot. That's because Mihoyo fans were tuning in specifically to watch her play that game.
So she kept playing it.
Then she played other gachas and her CCV also went higher when he played them. So she played those a bit more.
This led her to actually streaming a lot of gacha.
The immediate consequence was pretty good, her CCV would go higher.
But something happened over time, her total CCV started dropping overall, lower and lower and lower.
Any non gacha game would have a lower CCV than she had before. This affected all of her streams across the board.
Granted Finana also made other questionable choices like telling her fans to educate themselves or playing with some fans in private.
But the gacha decay was happening before these events.
Right now her CCV is a pathetic 800 for most streams. If she plays Honkai or Genshin it goes to around 1200 or 1300 but it normally goes back to 800 if she plays anything else.
She sacrificed long term consistent viewers to capitalize on the audience that was only interested in Honkai.
You can see how this is relatable to the Homo collab situation.

Let me give you another example, also related to Nijisanji.
Nijisanji big collabs get more numbers than HoloEN collabs at this point.
Nijisanji overall gets more viewers. If you only compare members individually HoloEN has higher numbers of course.
But the fact that Nijisanji has like four times as many members as HoloEN means all of those vtubers have their own individual audiences so when they collab all of those audiences come together to watch the collab.
You can see how this relates to HoloEN x HolostarsEN collabs as well.

You've got people who are very interested in those collabs and you've got people from different groups tuning together to watch them. But once the collab is over those audiences leave and they are left with their standard audience.
And that standard audience is leaving them because of those collabs.
