The inception was literally meant to be a "spinoff idol" and the asian idol industry is literally built around scamming as many pathetic, lonely virgins as possible into making them think becoming the biggest fan(read: spending the most money on merchandise/concert attendance) means they'll get to marry their idol once they retire.

I'm fairly certain that a vast majority of the money going into the vtuber industry doesn't even come from donations so that would largely only affects the ones streaming, not the company. I'd bet anything that most of the money is coming from merchandise and purchasing music(which is why so many vtubers who can not fucking sing still put out songs.)
