If you’re talking about EN, it wasn’t a golden age, it was a bubble. It’s starting to pop as we see the twitch indies show their real faces. But this is like the video game crash or the dotcom bubble bursting, not tulipmania or the south sea bubble. HoloEN opened the door, and despite their own attempts to punch themselves in the dick, it’s not closing.
As the scene develops, people will try out things to differentiate themselves from the meta. Some will succeed, plenty will fail. Most “successes” at this early stage will look relatively small, but interesting ideas for content that isn’t just imitating fleshtubers will start taking hold, and it’ll slowly get better.
THAT SAID, I think it’s going to take awhile. I’m not sticking around to find out.

Well, for me, it was sometime around spring 2022. I definitively, truly realized that I was bored of HoloEN. I was also in the middle of a massive depression arc, and for some reason I just couldn’t make myself go back since all the algorithmic boosts that made that easy were gone. Yeah, sad, I know, but it’s the same reason other people with depression stay in bed all day.
I mean, it didn’t end as poorly as you’d think (I’m still /here/…). I just switched to small corpos, decided to cope with the lack of good anime kayfabe, and at least find some girls I’d enjoy, even if it felt more like fleshtubing than anime.

We're actually doing great and the true Golden Age is yet to come. Tourists and trend chasers have left, worthless corpos and chuubas have exposed themselves and maletuber cancer has been properly segregated. We are now building a true vtuber culture, it's just that HoloEN plays a much smaller part in that due to the Tempus mistake and other factors and NijiEN matters even less. The future of western vtubing is in small corpos and indies, and though HoloEN might recover it'll only be true for specific chuubas. NijiEN is a casual, normalfaggot thing and so I don't think they matter much.

Basically things are looking up and there's a lot of great talents in the indie and small corpo scene.
