That is a barrier to entry. They don't want to keep up with another platform, yes. And discord has the most amount of effort required to use. Twitter is a simple registration and you can just click a single button to automatically register with your gmail, then type talent's name into the search bar and click follow. 3 clicks. Discord requires you to go through the entire registration process, verify your account, find the server which may or may not be advertised by the talent/mods, click the server join button, then click the stupid emoji to actually access the server. That's 6 steps plus more depending on how many clicks it takes to verify your email.

Yes, most people aren't autistic enough or care enough to go through a process three times the length just to follow someone. Only bored autists and groomers without jobs (not a diss, they may be students) will put up with that.

Discord is a problem when a streamer starts to play favorites and interacts with discord regulars more on stream. When they feel more comfortable with certain people because they're constantly visible and pretending to care about the streamer.
