Because this show is horrible propaganda. Each heart wenching scene is set up only to push the message that they don't like how unicorn fans act when they find out idols have a boyfriend.
Of course, this show would never promote the idol agencies that are fine with idols having boyfriends. No, they want you to accept that you're a cuck second citizen and that you should pretend that its fine even though the idol is lying, because she's lying to make you happy.

The idol dies to a stalker fan and then basically goes hearts out "I love you!" and then the Stalker commits suicide out of guilt. Its insane. Its actually a great scene, but knowing the intent behind it made all the impact go flat for me.

If you've actually fucking read the thing and have the brain capacity above that of a 15 year old you'd be disappointed with how it turned out. It's not just us, sales have been tanking in Japan consistently as well.

OnK -was- a big deal. It -was- at one point amazing and hype. Years ago. It's long past that now. Dogakobo put everything they had into making ep1 amazing because that's the only actually-good part of the manga too. I'm glad they did it well, godakobo has been one of my favorites since fucking Minami-Ke, I have high faith in them. However they're not miracle workers with the source material, which turns into "act-age ripoff / romcom shenanigans ignoring the big plot for about 20-30 chapters in between developing it, rinse and repeat for several years." There's even a part people started calling play Namek because it took like a year in real time for them to get through a stupid fucking play. yes a play where they're just showing off acting and talking about acting and "wow he's so emotional" etc. it's such a fucking shame. I think the editors fucked hard with the direction because they wanted to cash in on Act Age's sudden demise because that was pretty much coincidental with the sudden focus.
