I was thinking about how deadbeat mechs might work and how they might contrast with the hooman and vnug machines, and I think I want to do a setup where the control system interfaces directly with the pilot's skeleton, something gnarly like that.

Jehuty, the mecha suit pilot,
In Zone of the Enders, he would sit,
A war had raged, his home destroyed,
His only hope, the suit deployed.

With Orbital Frames, he'd fight with skill,
To save those left, it was his will,
Against the tyrant's evil might,
Jehuty fought on day and night.

In battles fierce, he'd take command,
His enemies would fall by his hand,
But as he fought, the suit would drain,
His strength, his mind, his very brain.

For in this world of endless war,
The suit was all he had and more,
And if he stopped, the suit would bind,
To Jehuty's body and his mind.

But still he fought, for those in need,
His only hope, to do the deed,
To end the war and find some peace,
For all those lost, their souls released.

And so he fought, with all his might,
To save his world, and see the light,
For even in the darkest night,
Jehuty's will, was always bright.

Found the issue. Btw, you should have mentioned that you still had 1000 people working even though you only have a max pop of 100 now. What happened was that the math that did your unemployment buff messed up the calculation because it was comparing your current working pop to your max pop. Bug fix added to the TODO.
Anyways, I reset all your workers to 0, and your happiness back to 55. You might want to go reassign them.

NTA, but that might be a good mechanic to add, being able to downgrade the governance level in some circumstances, mainly if your happiness gets too low. It would represent depopulation from people starving or moving to nicer cities, and give a way to stop a death spiral.

I guess it depends on how hard you'd like the game to be, if complete failure of the settlement isn't an outcome the players should encounter, it would be pretty useless. If it's something that can feasibly happen it would be a nice immersive way to get out of a tough spot in exchange for a lost governance level.

I’ve been thinking about it lately as well though I’m still not feeling too well. One idea I have is that since Liora seems to have a thing for transforming mecha (she played Asshimar is Gundam Evolution and she likes Vic Viper’s transformation), maybe some specialist /vnug/ mecha can transform as well. Given their tailed look I think they might fold up like a stingray and allow the thrusters to point at the same direction and let them close in onto enemies faster (maybe also have an attached shield+thrusters that add to the stingray appearance?) until unfolding into humanoid shape for close combat. Given how /vnug/ mecha works they’ll probably be more effective in melee range so it adds to that as well. Liora personally likes beam saber the most as far as melee weapon goes but when it comes to melee mecha, there’s only one choice really

Idk Unemployment as a buff to happiness seems pretty silly and anachronistic. Unless your country in lore has heavy state/religious welfare I don't think it should provide any bonuses or even be neutral to your happiness. That being said having country specific buffs might be fun. They probably should be pretty minor like a 5% cost reduction to upgrades or a 2 percent bonus happiness gain or something.

I think it's purely my autism but I would want to see the game eventually have different edicts and policies you can enact. Together with population growth that's separate from your town upgrades, affected by both policy, happiness, job availability and the buildings you have. Maybe that's too complicated and hard to balance. Population (and its quality) is such an important factor in the productivity of a society that I think every settlement management sim should model it.

>> No.46957071

>>46956789
I guess there's something to be said on making a game vs making a simulation. End users tend to want developers to create accurate simulations, but that can often create less fun gameplay by making mechanics more unpredictable, harder to understand, or just plain frustrating. I think there's fun to be had with both approaches as well as hybrids, but the game-oriented approach does have the benefit of being easier to balance, learn and develop.
I do think edicts and policies as mechanics could be interesting, though.

>different edicts and policies you can enact
I really want this to be part of the next big update, but its been really tough to nail down and design. The biggest issue is that to tract all of the separate upgrades and policies every different country and governance has, I have to make new database table. When I design the table, it has to have all of the fields needed to describe every single possible kind of upgrade. That kind of abstraction is really tough without knowing what things will play out like in the future

>>46957071
Very true and excellent points anon. If you want to sperg out on the game design aspect of all of this, and have the time for it, let me know and I can try to bring you more into the process. I've been sorely in need of someone that can write design specification documents.

>> No.46959382

>>46957925
I haven't done much SQL beyond learning about DROP TABLE, so this might sound naive. But can you not have a field of the table that is a programmed script/programmatic object which would be used to define more complex upgrade effects? So, you'd have fields for simply adding happiness, production, etc, and then this catch-all "script" column for more complicated effects.
I also feel like it should be possible to append new columns to an existing database, initializing the values of existing rows to some value so that you don't break existing upgrades, but again my experience with SQL is limited.
>Game design

Row 1: /meat/ as a concept, nation, and people exists on its own, Alliance of Teocuacayotl consolidates into one nation.
>Afram Mictlan!
Esoteric-Clergy caste dominates parliament. The dreaded 'destroy all corpos to stop the apocalypse' fundamentalists.
>Pa Vikingtog
Pragmatist-Militarist faction dominates parliament. Doubles down on 'gatekeepers of /vt/' role by invading, hijacking, and hunting down dramasisters and bait threads.
>Together Against The Titans
Pragmatist-Unity faction dominates parliament. Seeks to enact Indie /unity/ against corpos.
>One True Inward Perfection
Optimist-Hospitality faction dominates parliament. Keeps the /meat/ rites to itself and chose to leave everyone else alone. In return, cooperates with them through soft power.

Row 2: /meat/ as a concept, nation, and people exists with help of others. Alliance of Teocuacayotl may not consolidate into one nation.
>Flesh And Bone
The Flesh & Bone experiment succeeds. The varangians of /meat/ and Black Fleet becomes an unstoppable maritime alliance against Custodian influence.
>Metronome of Heartbeats
The Infinitum-Yectic alliance reaches a melting pot. A biopunk society where the flesh moves in tune with the heavenly realm.
>Tycoons of Torture
/meat/ completely reforms and abandons its raid policies. Becomes an entirely trading commerce power dealing with exotic goods of origins best left unknown.
>Patron of The Golden Circle
The Golden Circle alliance becomes fruitful and dominates the Ailivian Sea.

Row 3: /meat/ as a concept, nation, and people is under threat. But several elements still survive.
>Chains Broken, Faiths Thrown
Foreign intervention caused a slave-food caste uprising. /meat/ is now ruled over by its own cattle and labourers.
>And Along Came The Jackboots
The major corpo powers go NATO on /meat/. The nation and people may survive but forced to abandon its more extreme practices by the barrel of foreign powers.
>To Be Left Alone
/meat/ chose to abandon its alliances, cloak and dagger operations, and cult network. Survivability at the cost of civilisation.
>Weaving Amongst the Heathens
/meat/ as a nation has fallen to foreign powers, but its people and faith lives on through diasporas and pockets all over the world.

Row 4: /meat/ as a concept, nation, and people has perished in varying degrees.
>Beneath Custodian Heels
Nothing more can be said. No one remembers such a civilisation even existed.
>Remembered Only In Ink & Paper
While the nation and people is gone, it survives through texts, archives, and legends. A boogeyman for future children.
>Setting The Stage For The Future
/meat/ perished, but its faith lives on for a new successor.
>Down... But Not Out
Yectic Teocuacayotl is not yet lost. The struggle of existense, of dasein, in the face of enemies both physical and metaphysical. The land may be burning and littered with corpses, but the next generation is being raised, and our allies are present.

Hello /vtwbg/,
I come from /indie/ and have lurked in this thread on and off since /meat/ stayed in our thread for a little while. I wrote this poem as an introduction to /indie/, but I still have several questions to ask you:

1. As I understand it, /indie/ is not on the map at all. How do you get placed on the map and is there any prerequisites to that such as spending two weeks in the thread actively, writing based on the prompts, etc.

2. After the introduction, what do you recommend doing to get 'set up'? Given that /indie/ isn't on the map, many of the things i would consider important cannot be completed yet, but I assume there is a certain order of doing things.

3. Given the time I have lurked, I must ask this question sincerely: What exactly is 'lore' by your standards, and why are stories not considered lore at all? Is the poem I wrote not 'lore' because it's not scientific? My sincere apologies if this causes any issues, but I am still mystified over what lore is given the discussions I have seen. By my logic, stories are as much lore as anything else given that they contribute to building a world and making it alive. But perhaps I am wrong.

I have many more questions to ask, but I will ask them in time. Have a Happy Easter.

What's important is the culture, think of some concepts first. What sort of lifestyle would they have? Are they nomadic or sedentary? What kind of government would they have? etc. You can work backward from there once /indie/ is properly placed. But if you do want to we can probably fast-track it by assuming you are already in the place you've chosen. I think it makes sense to model after Japan in a way personally given that /indie/ is about jp indies and that there are countless numbers of JP twoviews we shill. (which is the purpose of the thread, see the OP)

/indie/ prompts:
Trying to model after our thread.
>Clothing
Classical japanese outfits, kimono and yutaka.
>Food
Think a lot depends on placement, but i think that etiquette will be a large part of eating meals.
>Entertainment
i struggle to understand this one because i don't know enough about the time period the world is in currently to know what types of entertainment were common.
>Religion
I think rather superstitious, similar to shinto because of the amount of chuubas. I need to study that more to give a good answer but our thread is mostly about posting links to 2view streams. As such, we have many gods and I believe that would mean many many shrines. Other religions? hard to say since we stay on topic, but given the experience with meat, we are warily tolerant but expect others to not cause issues and adapt to the thread culture.
>Alcohol and Drink
I guess? Depends on where /indie/ is located on the map.
>Development
Interesting prompt. Our goals are mostly insular and revolve around keeping the thread alive and providing links to the many streams. In the setting, this probably translates into what i said in the poem, being content with things as they are but i would also say our thread are hard and attentive workers, and extremely dedicated to what we do.
>Funeral Rites
Not sure how to answer this one yet.
>Music
not sure how to translate this properly.
>Name
ibid. Not entirely sure how names would work.
>Politics
To be determined.
>Superstition
See religion.
>Greetings and Gestures
Rather formal.
>Pets
To be determined.

I'm not sure if it's a problem if I want to mirror japan with a lot of these considering that I think traditional japanese values matches the thread rather well and Shinto fits well too. Many of these i feel are hard to answer without placement, and a overall idea which I am still trying to form.

Nice answers so far. The time period is comparable to just about before the industrial revolution in terms of tech. Absolutely nothing wrong with drawing from Japan, though you might want to know that quite a few nations are inspired by Japan, given how predominant Japanese culture is in vtubing. But again, there's nothing wrong with that, it's a bit like Japan-esque culture was predominant worldwide instead of the anglo-saxon influence that is found everywhere IRL.

To my knowledge, it would be your thread and /2434/ that take the heaviest route there. Maybe some connection can be made in the past, at least with /jp/ legacy, but good points about Japanese culture being like Anglo-Saxon in this world. Dev, some QoL ideas: In the View Quest interface, say you need 40 Copper and you only have 20, it would be useful if it said "20/40" instead of 40 right there.
Also, I second the suggestion for some way to trade stuff that is in another player's stockpile. Perhaps there could be a second more permissive trade code that lets you look at another settlement's stockpile and use it in trades?
Third, some kind of "regular trading partner" thing would be nice, just a way to save the trade codes of anons I've trade with already. Good work and progress as always.

Nah, it was legit, though now that I’ve done it I’m starting to accept trades and quests to speed things along. I guess I just happened upon the sweet spot that makes all the numbers go up kek. Would village not be more of the same? If I have 10 times the population then surely I’ll just need to assign 10 times the workers I have now… Either way I’ll have to grind for more stockpiles a bit before I go upgrading.

Hopefully not? It has different settings. Even with more people it should be tough. Ideally, it Shouldn't be possible because I'm hoping to add things that will only unlock at Village level, and since they arent there now, you should struggle.
All meaning: if you move to Village and still breeze through it, I need to go rework Village numbers. Up to you though.

Yeah, too much flexibility can often be an architectural drawback. What about some mid-point? Could you make columns that receive specific types of scripts with predefined properties? Though no examples of something like that being useful immediately come to mind, I guess that's why future-proofing a WIP project is difficult. Maybe a decorator could be useful? That might be getting overly object-oriented kek.
>Ideally, you could pick a system from the roadmap and start designing it in more detail.
Okay, I can do that. As you do, I'd be keeping in mind the thread's ideas, thoughts and feedback.

Oh, pataphysical is just relating to our made-up physics that interact with the Heavenly Realm, someone else coined it during one chat with paragraphsanon.
And yeah, many of them probably would be first investigated in the LAB, being an institution at the forefront of chuubanite science. Main Vitubia is just beginning to enter the era of the scientific method, and technology is lacking, but lots of discoveries will be made. This (https://rentry.org/morinium)) document is written from the POV of the vt40k society, but the science of Morinium is for the most part the same, the substance is just more energetic post-Seventh Trumpet. I think the LAB would probably be able to characterize the thermal capabilities of Mori chuubanite, at least empirically, as well as the material-hardening properties. They might be able to ferret out some information regarding the conceptual waves with the help of catalognauts, but that's where the technology would be lacking, very precise and high energy equipment is needed to do particle physics that would let you observe stuff like pic related. Psychological effects would also be difficult to quantify.
And the same goes for Candy Chuubanite. Basically, in the 19th century scientists were able to create decent empirical models for not too chaotic phenomenons, it was just difficult to understand the underlying mechanisms.

I don't mind discussing it now at all. I like economics myself, so your lore was interesting.

>The economy of the Serene Republic is highly defined by its lack of natural resources.
If I may with a suggestion, we could be the breadbasket of the region. It would be a mutually beneficial relationship that i would like to have, but its up to you. Many of the raw resources from indie could go to /nasfaq/ and back, and so on. Though we certainly would want other trading partners. Not sure how the mining stuff would work, but I think farming would be our societies backbone per se.

Only overall issue is probably our nation cultures will be a lot different, given that my ideas for /indie/'s culture would be more in line with agrarianism and the shunning of some of the things i think /nasfaq/ would pride itself on, like the hording of wealth and excess. I could be wrong about that, however.

"The flames of rebellion must be extinguished now before it turns into an unstoppable inferno."- Seitō Taishōgun Mononobe Harumitsu, 3578

Every action has an equal reaction, and such is the case here. More groups have risen up as opposition in the Fuyu (Winter) of 3578 (1144) that have brought about a crisis. The situation is now critical, and the pot is about to boil over completely. Action is the only way forward for the Eastern Shogun, Mononobe Harumitsu and he marches north...

>The following takes place in an alternate future of 1300VTE (Or whenever the 20th Century Equivalent of Vitubia is)

"Yectic Alliance Proposes Unification!"

"In an unsurprising turn of events, the Yectic Alliance of Matiyotl Priestdoms, Yectic Teocuacayotl, has announced that they will reorganise the centuries old alliance of theocracies into a single unified federal body. The proposal was brought forth by the Council of Six and the Rikitlatoani in response to the ever growing external threat of foreign powers, rogue Custodians, and pataphysical horrors. With the final penstroke of the Council of Six, the nations of the Yectic Alliance have ceased to exist as a geopolitical body, save for the Yectic Instituitions under the control of the Rikitlatoani to maintain peace and order in this governmental limbo. Throughout the subcontinent, the Abbeytoirs and town plazas explode with rallies and speeches to attract support for the upcoming Unification Allthing. Factions are formed among, and even across, the clergy-mage intellectuals and the farmer-artisan labourers, and surprisingly even within the end positive slave caste. Nasfaqg has a wide variety of resources but not a huge amount of any single resource (at least not enough to meet domestic demand). The economy of the nation focuses more on production of manufactured goods, i.e, cotton and wool into cloth, metals into nuts and bolts and swords and guns
Since sizeable portion of the population is urban, food imports are much needed.

I personally would prefer to have a generally friendly, or at worst a neutral mutually beneficial relationship. /indie/ being a breadbasket and a source for resources like cotton, wood, etc for the area sounds good to me.
AS for how the cultures see each other, that can be discussed further at a later date once you are abitmore established (unless, ofc, you want to go into it sooner).

The western side of nasfaqg, as well as the tip of the /indie/ peninsula (so, where we border you in the north) are more sparsely populated and agrarian areas, with a lot of small farming, hunting, and fishing communities, so perhaps the border areas and sub-states of nasfaqg could be a bit less disgusting to /indie/, while the heavily urbanized eastern areas of nasfaqg where the hoarding of wealth and excess is concentrated could be seen as a more disliked area?

The nation is essentially a loose confederation of hundreds of more or less independent city-states so it would not be at all impossible to be friendly with some while disliking or being openly hostile to others.

I just had pancakes with honey. I'm thinking about underwear /nasa/ has long underwear for spacesuits too. Spacesuits usually have two layers. So long underwear can be a third layer to the spacesuit. I digress. Just want to keep the underwear topic going before scizos derail again.

Huge cock, even. But that begs the question, how does the blood flow through such a large member, and are Risuner women not extremely loose because of it?

Call it Pataphysics and some cocaine anon, that really gets the blood flowing down there. The women love it, believe me but not extremely loose. It is long and narrow.

>"I've got nothing against squirrels. It's just a business you know? A necessity." The skin dried on the branches of a dead tree under the alien heat of the savage savannah world, Shishon took the shot and it had caught the girl in the small space between the back of her ear and her skull and had exited through the eye cavity. The lioness was proud.
>"Oh I know. They're don't have rights in this sector and these ones were specifically marked as vermins. Nothing wrong with it." The watamate stooped low and grabbed the leg of the skinned risuner girl, a rotting treerat wasn't uncommon and most of their kind didn't pay much mind to a dead body but a skinned body was enough to alert some to the presence of a hunter and he'd seen more than one hunt go empty because someone underestimated a treenigger. They'd accept a skinless body if that body was also missing some choicy parts of meat as well and while Watamaeru was more keen on the pelts than the meat, he new his companion had a growing taste for it. He cut off a finger and tossed it to the waiting lioness who took it generously with a smile, he kept tossing her fingers and then thumbs until the dead squirrel had none left to give except for toes, which even Shishon was loathe to try.
>He cut off the breast meat and carved out two nice rumps of meat from the ass then peeled off whatever seemed like it would make for good jerky while Shishon started a fire and they began to cook. The smell wasn't bad at all and as the grease of melting fat began to run down the roasting flesh, they began to quip.
>"In some galaxies, I hear all meat is for sale. Even sheep." She said, sucking the meat from a finger bone."
>"In some galaxies, once you past 40, they shoot you." He said, turning the little piece of ass he'd cut away over so it could roast a little more where it needed.
>"In some galaxies, if you call someone old. You'll die young." She tossed the finger away and began working on some of the forearm.
>"You hear that treenigger? Respect your elders." He took a stick and swatted at the severed head of the treerat as it blackened in the epicenter of their bonfire, the lioness cackled.
"She must've been a little brat, naughty treerats get skinning correction!" They both laughed then and Shishon took the femur and wacked the head with it, the skull crumpled in onto itself and a going pasted boiled forth as brains bubbled up and out of her split skull and they laughed even more. They only ate the brains of their last kill before leaving, some cultural thing from the lioness that the watamate didn't mind, squirrel brains was like squirrel toes in that it was an accquired taste. They laughed a little longer and ate a little more before taking the pelt and scattering the bones about. They'd slip somewhere else and not risk any pink haired scavengers, the night was warm and inviting and this trip was looking to be fruitful. There were men who lived on moons that would pay alot for some of these pelts and most didn't mind where they came from. The sheep and the lion would have a fruitful hunt indeed and a feast for five nights more and over a dozen pelts to bring to the market by the time they were done.
